Reason: Abdomens are not exclusive to arthropods.
It’s the large bulbous tail like thing for arthropods.
It’s below the chest to above the pelvis for humanoids.

Updated

yeah, but the <color>_abdomen tags are obviously meant to refer to arthropod abdomens, we have the <color>_belly tags for "below the chest to above the pelvis". if anything we should alias all of the <color/characteristic>_abdomen tags to <color/characteristic>_arthropod_abdomen so that it'd show up diffrent when a user tab-completes or clicks it on the autocomplete list but even that dosn't seem that necessary... is there even much evidence of this stuff being mistagged? because if there's not I don't see any reason to do this.

EDIT: yeah, it seems like there are enough occurrences for us to take some action, but I don't think that this BUR recommended in the OP is the way to go.

create implication arthropod_abdomen -> arthropod

in whatever case, we almost certainly should not to this, implying general tags to species tags is almost never done. we don't do it for <species>_penis or <species>_ears, shouldn't do it here.

Removed it, thank you for reminding me. Maybe I should wait till the morning before doing these things.

The rest should still happen.

Aliasing them might add them to artwork that they don't apply to, as there were some added for colored bellies.

What better ways are there to do this?

The tag for "abdomens fused to the thorax" is "Belly"

Okay but then it's a tag that should be aliased to belly as well, but there are still abdomens not related to arthropods.

yeah, and heart (aliased to <3) sometimes gets added to posts rather than heart_(organ), that dosn't mean that we should completely remove the functionality of heart for such a rare occurrence. what you're recommending is removing functionality of existing tags and changing them to a new set of tags that do not seem to serve any utility other than not having some stuff mistagged on occasion.

abdomen and the rest of this tag family with their aliases/implications removed seem like an invalid tags to me. "abdomen" on its own does not describe anything that cannot be tagged with other existing valid tags (belly or arthropod_abdomen, both of which are totally dissimilar and should not have some shared "one or the other"-type tag). a majority of the time the arthropod_abdomen tag family is tagged properly, I don't believe that the ambiguity problem here is nearly large enough to warrant the creation of a whole family of invalid tags for disambiguation purposes.

Okay but I believe that leaving it ambiguous is better than mistagging. Aliasing it ether way leaves the possibility of incorrect implications on correct tags. I do agree that abdomen seems like a useless tag with belly and arthropod_abdomen

If you want a tag for colored arthropod abdomens add (color)_arthropod_abdomen.

Yeah, I was thrown off with the abdomen -> arthropod_abdomen alias, had figured that the former would become the stand-in tag for flat bellies during the whole alias flat_belly -> midriff discussion, see topic #33806.

It's a bad alias, abdomen is a very general term, to make it alias to something so specific, instead of being a disambiguation tag (which IMO should have its own colour to set it apart from normal tags), or an invalid tag, was a bad decision.
