I would just like to know the requirements for going higher than a member, if that's possible, thanks!

Privileged comes before that.
But the requirements are pretty much the same. Be nice, be useful, be helpful.

Isn't the contributor rank given to artists that frequently post their own stuff here? Because I remember seeing multiple people with that title who had an entirely unremarkable amount of posts and tag edits, and no visible achievements on their record for helping out in other ways.
If that's not the case, then idungeddit.

I think that used to be the case, but they changed it a while ago. As far I know it's like Privileged v.2 these days.

We give out Privileged to people who have proven themselves useful, be it from lots (thousands) of tag edits, lots of good flagging (reposts and the like), being active and helpful in the forums, etc. Contributor is pretty much the same except even more...so. Also check out this page.

While it doesn't say exactly what sorts of things it takes to get one, this is a list of how many there are and how they work (third section down, titled: "User Ranks"): https://e621.net/wiki/show?title=e621%3Arules
How to get one? As far as I know, you create a record of showing that you know and obey the site's rules, that you help out and help the site run in one or more ways by a lot (tagging, uploading, sourcing, helping other users, etc etc), that you're decent/respectful/helpful to other users, that you don't cause drama or rack up a lot of negative bs. And when you think you have a good track record, or a good case to make, then you can email them to ask (details about that are also in the link above).
And Peekaboo's right, Privileged comes before Contributer. However, sometimes the route people took was a little more of a zigzag. The rank of Contributer especially seems to have the most varied history of how people got there. But now it's more linear. So aim for Privileged first, and then if you're a good uploader after awhile you can ask to upgrade from Privileged to Contributer. Or at least, that's the way I would do it. ETA: dammit, Tony beat me to it. But it's good to know exactly the whats and whys though.

The thing is, I created this forum to see if I had ruined any chance of getting Privileged or Contributor because I posted a (free to view) comic without realising that it had already been posted, and now I have 9 deleted posts on my record (the 9th was a picture that I uploaded and something happened to the resolution and it was really blurry).

You don't even have a negative record, you haven't ruined anything yet.
Having images deleted just reduces the number of images you can upload before some have to be approved.
This negative in your upload limit can also be countered simply by uploading more good images that won't be deleted.
So don't worry, you're fine.
Just try to be helpful in general and you'll end up rewarded for it in the long run.
It can take a while, but that's normal around here.

Ok, thanks

Contributor rank is reserved for people with a consistently positive upload history, since their uploads are auto-approved at that rank. So having a lot of deleted posts does hurt your chances. We wouldn't want someone who posts a lot of paysite material or reposts to bypass the mod queue, afterall.

May I ask, what of janitor rank?
-How is it earned?
-What are the responsibilities of the rank?
-What advantages does it possess, if any?

In theory you are "representing the admin team". In practice nobody cares about your position (it's still not listed on page Husky mentioned, and 11 months after I told EDF nobody bothered to change their description in rules to correct "Janitor: Can delete forum posts", lol) unless you don't agree with every stupid decision admins make.
So, to answer your questions
- Like any other rank, though probably you should be contributor first.
- You can't question any decision made by admin team + everything that contributor has.
- You can approve/delete pics. (Not forum posts.) + everything that contributor does.

Not theory, it's fact. Act like a bad janitor, you get the boot. You should know this. Also, we (the admins) do care about users with elevated positions.

That will be fixed in a bit
unless you don't agree with every stupid decision admins make.
Are you trying to start something?
