The tag alias #57489 handjob_gesture -> wanking_gesture has been rejected.

Reason: It might be easier for some people to remember since the first thing that comes to mind might be "handjob" or "jacking off" rather than "wanking."

The last thing we need is more slang. It wouldnt hurt to have an alias but Im not sure thats the direction to take it.

That’s fine, but wanking_gesture already implies suggestive_gesture, so someone will need to move it to whatever the new tag will be. Personally, I don’t care too much what this is called, as long as the name gets the point across. The gesture itself is inherently pretty crude, so a crude name doesn’t seem out of place.

Speaking of slang, though, I really wish we’d replace pussy with vulva already. That one just seems unnecessarily crass. The word is so embedded in our tag structure, though, and so many posts would have to be updated that I feel like that’ll never happen.

The wording of your reason sounds like it should be the reverse of the proposed alias, which I would be more in favor of.

It gets shot down every single time because by the site staff's reasoning somehow "pussy" covers stuff that "vulva" doesnt. Namely the internal parts like the vagina and inner labia. But we tag foreskin as a separate part snd there is no current way to search for "innie" or "outie" labia as they refer to it here with any effectivity because the tags are a fucking nightmare.

I’ve lately been considering requesting to unalias labia_minora from pussy, and having it imply pussy instead, as searching pussy -cleft_of_venus is a very poor way to find images featuring the inner labia.

In fact, I think I’ll do that right now. It’ll probably get swamped with downvotes though, since it’s so obviously useful and everyone seems to hate obviously useful implications. :p And maybe if it goes over well (unexpected, but still, maybe) I’ll try to suggest renaming the tag to vulva again. I mean, the whole foreskin/uncut/circumcised situation made no sense for a long time, but it was finally changed not too long ago… so maybe this still can be.

Also, this is patently absurd as even Wikipedia defines “vulva” as follows:

Yes. Ive mentioned this in the threads Ive made on it. The other issues Ive brought up like the foreskin thing and the slur tags got dealt with but this is a sticking point I dont have the energy left to spend debating for hours.

Changing a tag that's plain, descriptive English to slang is more or less always a bad idea, if you ask me. And, if handjob_gesture is too technical for someone, they're likely not going to understand "wanking gesture" either.

Ugh… thank you for the links. I read through all of that, and I see that this goes way deeper than I thought.

But of all these these threads, the one thing I haven’t seen is an actual request to change pussy to vulva. This would require a sizable BUR to flip all the current implications/aliases (not to mention renaming things like pussy_juice… which just sounds gross, it should be vaginal_fluid), but at least if I do that then we have two advantages:

• All the work will have already been done (by myself, in this case), so nobody can say “oh but look at all the tags we have to change, too much work“
• We can get an actual vote on the issue to hopefully gauge user support for the change.

I can tell that this issue is going to keep coming up, so hopefully we can put this thing to rest once and for all.

A BUR like that would get an instant thumbs up from me - I already wrote why here, and for most of the tag flips, the real hard work would merely be copying and pasting the wiki articles over, maybe rewriting some things here and there. "Pussy" has so many problems, there's not a single benefit to having it be the name for external female genitalia over the neutral toned, anatomically correct "vulva". _{(and WHY have such a gross sounding tag name like "pussy_juice"?
