Topic: [REJECTED] Panic Variations (BUR)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

This should probably instead be an alias rather than a mass update. though I've also never done a BUR before so

They're all the same word, though. Autofill doesn't need to have four different options for the same thing when there are tags for characters named Panic.

Mass updating instead of aliasing means that people will keep using those other tags occasionally.
Which means we'll have the exact same problem several years down the line.

In that case, panic should be disambiguated to prevent confusion.

I feel that if you name a character after a word, it should not confer you tagging rights for that word. Anybody who names a character "panic" will just have to come to terms with the fact that it is inherently confusing.

The bulk update request #2299 has been rejected.

create alias panic (0) -> panic_(disambiguation) (0)
change category panic_(disambiguation) (0) -> invalid

Reason: Panic refers to not just the emotion, but also multiple characters, artists, and I don't know what else. As mentioned above, it seems a disambiguation is in order.

I'd have to agree with this statement. While there are mythological entities named after common words, such as "Death", other words shouldn't be used as names. Is it really worth disambiguating just because some people decided to be mean to their characters and not give them a proper name?

Even Metal Gear Solid 3 gave "emotions" a modifier with "The Pain" and such. The only one I don't remember them ever using The for was Joy, who is otherwise known as The Boss; and Joy is a common people name anyways.

It depends on how likely it is to be mistagged. Regardless of how at fault someone is that they named their character using a common word, if that tag keeps getting misused, it's us that have to keep fixing it. If it's not misused much, maybe a disambiguation isn't necessary, but if it is, that's the purpose of the disambiguation.

The bulk update request #2303 is active.

create alias panic_(emotion) (0) -> panicking (1913)
create alias panicked (0) -> panicking (1913)
create alias panic (0) -> panicking (1913)

Reason: I slept on it, and yeah, you guys are right, disambiguation is not really necessary here.

Would panic be better, or panicking?
There isn't too much consistency in the emotions tags.

EDIT: The bulk update request #2303 (forum #332155) has been approved by @bitWolfy.

panicked_expression

? I prefer having the _expression suffix on tags for characters expressing emotion as it helps remove ambiguity and makes things consistent.
