"breath_play" and "choking" both implicate "asphyxiation".

They're often used to tag images that either aren't extreme enough cases to cause oxygen deprivation, or don't yet depict symptoms it. There are no distinctions between lightly constricting the neck or impeding breathing, and strangulation or smothering. So blacklisting asphyxiation would block posts like:

People are also neglecting to use the "forced" or "unwilling" tag when there's clear distress or injury.

The bulk update request #2296 has been rejected.

remove implication drowning (1623) -> asphyxiation (11569)
remove implication choking (6010) -> asphyxiation (11569)
remove implication breath_play (1867) -> asphyxiation (11569)

Reason: A condition in which one has a severe lack of oxygen, to the point where the body can not function properly this does not necessarily apply to these tags

Would a tag for "delirium" also help? A lot of posts with the asphyxiation tag have either a panicking or delirious subject.

Both of those are a form of asphyxiation, but the above is also wounded... just didn't have the tag.
Wouldn't be opposed to an extreme asphyxiation tag though. I don't mind some light breathplay or chokeholds, but do mind a serious attempt to suffocate somebody.

I hear you. e621 again dropped ball with kinks and terms distinction by trying "optimize" tag system to understanding of uneducated majority. Instead of actually try to educate by giving proper descriptions (e.g. scour wiki for that).

Which may cause asphyxiation as a state, but not necessary does. E.g. using mask, air pump, or blocking air flow by other means , even just by special breathing exercises is breathplay. There is a lot of aspects there including sub-dom dynamics, not just anatomy.

Choking by throat isn't breath play, hanging aither, they cause blood pressure change and do not block air per se (if it does, it's a lethal damage to throat) although prolonged blood flow block may result in reduced oxygen supply to brain. Breathplay is also a consensual, safe act. One may argue that there is distinction between holding by throat and choking, but you can't usually tell for sure by image. Holding by throat, light chocking, a mild choking that causes BP change - all those fall into unusual forms of erogenous stimulation. Aquaphilia is another example where kinks brush up with asphyxiation but not necessary go for it directly.

And in NO way actual snuff is a breath play but currently it was made one.

It's impossible to tell if there's no asphyxiation involved with breath play. It's not a 'visible' thing. Many images involving breath play has the character visibly underoxygenated, but not necessarily asphyxiated. What I mean is that it's TWYS, not TWYK and if I see a character that's seemingly choking then I would reasonably give it the asphyxiatoon tag although that might not be what is happening in the image.

We should add a new tag, "suffocating" for cases where one or more characters are dying due to lack of oxygen.

TWYS: I repeat. Usually ut's by method used. E.g. noose isn't. Noose doesn't cause suffocation, I repeat. As well as actual, strict choking. And those two methods NEVER are used as breathplay, so it's not TWYS vs TWYK issue. Because they are lethal or do permanent damage.

Covering face, e.g. by bag does. In fact, people who tag it, don't know but they THINK they know. And repeating that teaches other people that is pprobably what breathplay is.
