Topic: Tag Alias: absolute_territory -> zettai_ryouiki

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Shouldn't the alias go in the other direction? This is an English speaking site.

I would agree that it should be flipped then if it is a name, like a person's name, but if it's a copyright title (or whatever) then perhaps it should just stay like it is? Similar to fifth of may not being turned around to be tagged miyo de cinco (apologies for mispelt spanish....and english)

It's a carryover from Danbooru.

Zettai ryouiki (絶対領域) loosely translates into "absolute territory" and is the area of bare skin seen between a skirt and thighhighs. Some have suggested that the ideal ratio is 4:1:2.5 (length of mini-skirt : absolute territory : length of overknee socks above the knee). To qualify for the tag, the skirt should fall naturally down the leg, if the skirt is pulled up or otherwise out of place, the image probably doesn't qualify for the tag. Example characters include Tohsaka Rin, Momose Kurumi and Mayura.

The term itself originates from Neon Genesis Evangelion, although it had none of the current connotations in the anime. The modern usage of zettai ryouiki originates from the creator of a desktop mascot application when he used the term on his blog in reference to Mayura.

The tag is not viable if the image shows panties in between the thighhighs and skirt.

I'm not sure if we even need it...

Well, we still have a thigh_gap tag, so why not.

I suppose.
...though I know for sure that I won't be using it if we keep it. I can't even tell the difference between different types of legwear, so trying to figure out what exactly qualifies for this tag seems out of my league.

If legwear (or whatever) gets accepted as the umbrella tag, wouldn't skirt legwear do a good job returning results? At least, no worse than trying to find female foxes.

...Zettai Ryouiki is literally the same thing as the thigh gap, just taken to the "perfect ratio" (which is debatable). It should be aliased to it.

Nah, because there isn't going to always be the gap there that this labels.

I thought thigh_gap refered to the gap between the thighs and absolute_territory meant the gap between the skirt hem and the top of the legwear.

That's right, they're different things.

...Seriously? Huh. Welp... I always thought it meant the gap between thigh-highs and skirt. Guess I just don't search the right things, and assumed. My bad.

Alright, flipped and approved.

Flipped because using the japanese name was going to be harder to spell. And I have no doubts it would have gotten mistaken sometimes for an artist's name, and would have then caused some confusion about why it was a general tag. Plus, we usually stick with the english terms for things whenever possible.

Approved because it is some people's fetish. And after testing it, I found it was not easily approximated by other searches. However, I think we should stick with the more basic definition for it, and leave the "perfect ratio"/specific grades (A, B, S, etc) to other sites which have a more anime focus. It might offend some purists somewhere to ignore all of that. But I think sticking with the basic definition is a better option for this site's needs and focus.

I also wrote a wiki for it so that people can have a clear idea how to use the tag if they wish. This way those who want the tag can have it. And it really won't change anything for those who hold no interest in it.
