Topic: Tag Implication: Chubby -> Overweight

Implicating Chubby → Overweight
Link to implication

Reason:

There's a scale of overweight-related tags:
1. chubby (plump)
2. fat (obviously overweight, but not drastically so)
3. obese (pot bellies, thighs like hams, etc.)
4. morbidly_obese (truly huge - barely or not at all capable of walking)

(from the e6 wiki obese article)

Against.
The wiki is outdated: fat has been aliased to overweight, so that scale no longer works.

This implication would mean that chubby gets implicated to fat, which doesn't seem quite right to me. Chubby is generally tagged for plump characters, ones that aren't overweight enough to be called fat.

I like the way the system works; some gents get chubbies from chubbys, but obese gets blacklisted.

Dead on.

I think what's most important is that people stop tagging morbidly obese characters as chubby.

I like the occasional chubby and I understand it's difficult to understand the scale, especially when our "chubby" is obese on the BMI.

Agreed...
...and not meaning to get off topic here, but I simply must compliment you on your gorgeous profile picture. That's what true love looks like.

Denied because overweight can't be a step on the scale AND be an umbrella tag at the same time.

A few other notes:

While the use is a little sloppy between all of the fat tags, a lot of what's under chubby is not usually what people are looking for when they search overweight and visa versa. Because chubby is often considered to be just-barely or not-quite overweight enough. The tag is meant for people who like a little "heft", a little thicker bodied, only a little padding or curve...while most people who search overweight are looking for more fat than that (full bellies and thick limbs, etc).

And since most people have a range they prefer, as well as a range they'd like to avoid, I think implicating chubby so that it always adds the next-step-up tag would reduce people's ability to search specifically for what they want. For instance, it's been a long-term source of complaints that too many people add the chubby tag to every degree of fatness, which then throws off people's searches. In fact, a lot of images have all of the overweight-type tags added indiscriminately, and that already causes significant problems for searchers. This implication is headed towards making that type of mistagging official. And if it doesn't work when it's by mistake, then making it official isn't going to work any better. So it's also denied because of those reasons.

An alternate way to look at this is through the BMI scale

Normal: You probably don't need a tag.
Overweight: Use chubby
Obese: Use overweight
Seriously obese: Use obese
Very seriously obese: Use obese or morbidly_obese. This is generally considered the "hyper_fat" tag, except it is physically possible in a lot of cases.
