Topic: Happy new year 2022 - Any goals for This Year ... and Today?

Posted under Off Topic

Good morning world, Happy New Year.
I believe that We are all living in hope, And this year ahead will be full of hope.

Hey Everybody, If you have goal(s) for this year, What would it be?

... My goal, by the way, is to be awake at midnight on February 22, I guess?
Except that, I will gain power and will be strong like No one else ... Well, in many things, literally.
(( Imagine it's about giving off an aura like ドドドド / ゴゴゴゴ ... !! ))

None of this really matters, my goal for today is to have sushi for lunch. I think I'll go to Sentō after that :P
Guys, What do you do on a day like today.

Updated

Eurgh... inevitably, my goals are the same as last year, and with COVID still around all I can think is "man, I hope I can achieve them!".

My Resolutions

> Get a job, particularly one that takes advantage of my skills and disregards my Asperger Syndrome or is unaffected by it.

> Resume going to college. IDK what field(s) I want to pursue, either I continue Emergency Medicine or start something that tickles my "hobby" fancies like Woodcutting or Lapidary, et cetera. At minimum, I want to be able to make something I can truly call mine, with my own hands and skill.

> Look into moving out. Due to possessing two forms of epilepsy, I can't live on my own, but staying under my parents' roof is seriously taking a toll on my mental and emotional well-being. My friend also wants to move out of their parents' house, so we can probably buddy up in an apartment, once the opportunity presents itself.

> Work out more often / Lose weight. I'm over 300 pounds and I'm greatly dissatisfied with the effects that has on my body. It isn't hard for me to do walks, and I quite enjoy them, but sometimes I just give up for no reason in particular, and thus regain the weight I lost.

> Free Space. Honestly, an important part of resolutions is to keep an open mind about making them. You are quite unlikely to write all of your flaws down and set yourself positive goals, so it rewards being flexible towards setting resolutions.

And that pretty much does it for now. I'm sure I could think of other things, like try to be more positive IRL and in here, or change hobbies so that I'm not getting bored so frequently, but these are the ones I feel comfortable speaking about.

It's 1 hour from the new year where I live, but thanks for sending wishes from the future. Anyways, I don't like that much to speak what my plans are as it just makes me more anxious when I can't complete them. So... being really general, I really would like to work on myself.

Maybe if I remember and if I'm or the world will be here by then, I'll update this with my progress.

In 2022, I will try to:

  • Improve my art skills
  • Fix my sleep schedule
  • Get better at pretending that I'm actually going to try to fix my sleep schedule
  • Learn enough Japanese to read 吾輩は猫である

Replace my HDD with a SSD (It is dying)
•Learn to code C++
•Learn japanese
•Learn to draw
•Get fit, even just a bit
•Learn blender

Am I going to do any of that? probably not, maybe just replace the HDD.
I just hope for my future self to stop being a lazy fuck and actually get something done this time.

Whatever, my goal for today is to have sushi for lunch. I think I'll go to Sentō after that :P

This is some venerable stuff, here. Demon-like power, maybe, even?

Oh, uh, other people's goals you're asking for. Er... be able to be heard when I'm talking, I'm usually too quiet. ^^'
I think I'll focus on tone of voice for two months or more, then word choice/casual vocabulary for the same time, then actually projecting. Maybe staying hydrated to achieve that, too. We'll see if that teaches anything, though. Thanks for asking and Godspeed to your ability to achieve such aspirations!

Edit: It's funny, y'all so far have goals to learn Japanese (or already know it) and I'm over here working towards B1 level in Mongolian. A natural enemy looms...

Happy New Year 2022, and that all your positive wishes and plans for this new year become true...

"And may the odds be ever in your favor"

;)

Happy new year to everyone!

As far as resolutions goes, all I hope is to be better (and lose some weight) than last year and hope for the new year is a better one as well.

I hope for the best for everyone reading and if I may say this:

Don't treat the years as grades but think more that you survived it. And if anything, know that you what the worst of this year and I know you can take on the next year whatever may come.

Mine is also agonizing... but I am "conservative" in that ... I was born and die with HDD (but they in the future may cease to exist, and I will have no option).

•Learn to code C++
•Learn japanese
•Learn to draw
•Get fit, even just a bit
•Learn blender

For the second, third and fifth of your goals, an average human take more than one year, in my calculations... so be patient.

(Save you already have some notions of all that).

Right now, in my view, you are doing NOW the right thing... that is to have positive goals.

Wish you success.

Thanks, I have read all of your posts so far.
Everyone has their own goals in life, I learned.

As I expected - I mean, More than I expected, There seemed to be people studying Japanese on this site.
I can't stay idle anymore, then :P

Anyway, There's still the "Jungle's law", Just as long as I don't break myself, I'mma keep my heart burning, with purple flames.
See you later - Best wishes for your future.

I think that this is something to be expected in a site with a lot of young Western people, that in greater-than-average mode, are Fans of, say, Pokemon / Manga / Anime.

My young cousins studied Japanese on line ... in some application that I don't remember... oh yes, I do! "Duolingo". They undestand pretty a lot when they hear non translated anime, or when they coordinate online with their Asian friends (although for that, English is more like the common language)... but off course, they cannot READ the Kanji... and the Kana, somehow, but it is only because I taught them very young, forseeing that.

Contrary to me... I started my self-study of Japanese learning the Kanji ... but my study has been several times interrupted. Now they (my cousings) could hear Japanese much better than I, but I can "read" better than them.

For learning Kanji, off course, there is this classic, that I recommend. This author purports that you could learn the almost 2000 Kanji that native Japanese students learn in Elementary and High school, in 3 months... but to be able to do that, say, in a year at leisure pace, is very good, and I know it could be done.

(Thank you, Dr. Heisig).

Hmm, I guess... This process is needed even for us Japanese :
Listen → Turn into Hiragana → Read and Think → Convert into Hiragana+Katakana+Kanji → Read again → If necessary Paraphrase or Translate into another language

This process should Not be skipped most of the time, unless skipping would cause no problems. I instantly Convert after Listen, But I'm still paying attention.
Because there are 同音異義語 , ダジャレ, and ぎなた読み , And that's why "Listening" alone is No good.

Example :
きしゃのきしゃがきしゃできしゃした >>> 貴社の記者が汽車で帰社した >>> Your company's reporter returned to the office by train
とうさんかつらかったな >>> 「倒産か、辛かったな」or 「父さん、カツラ買ったな」>>> "Bankruptcy? That was tough, huh?" or "Dad, You bought a wig, huh?" 🤔🤔🤔

The same sentence could be turned into another meaning. ... It's so tricky, yes?
But IMO, It is good to start with "Reading" Kanji to understand Japanese correctly, actually. Since, That's the final-form before understanding, and there should be less to worry about.
Believe yourself and Good luck to you.

Hello again, @Kurogi FoxSIV.

Yes, in Japanese there are a lot of linguistic dificulties, like the great number of homophones... but at the same time, you should from the context deduce if a "Chinese" or "native Japanese" pronunciation of a Kanji or word is the relevant or not. But we could say that the "written" form is more precise of the meaning intended.

Thank you for your good wishes. Currently I am still fighting with the Russian language, and I am forgetting my German of dis-use.

But I will soon, in months, re-take my studying of Japanese. And I will advise those that want to learn it, to use a good Japanese-English dictionary for that. For me, the best for many years, have been the Denshi-Jisho. If you learn to use it properly, for me it is a true marvel...
