Topic: [Feature] Recommended Page

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

I imagine the system work, where you can put in tags you like/use in your profile (much like the Blacklist system), and it will set us a recommended page featuring the various tags you selected.
For example, if I put in Transformation, Mammal and E-01 (an artist), my recommended page would feature posts using some of those tags

Updated

You can search for posts using some (not all) of a list of tags using the ~ operator. For example: ~transformation ~mammal ~e-01

In this case you'll notice that mammal completely suffocates the other two terms, so in practice you'll want to set up several such links. Or you could mix and match operators: ~transformation mammal ~e-01 will give you posts which are tagged with either transformation or e-01 as long as they are also tagged mammal, for example. It depends on exactly what you want to do.

Im suggesting a general recommendation page (much like the subscription page on YouTube, where it shows channels/tags you are subbed to)

In that case, -1 for anything to make us more like conventional social media platforms. I know e6 is functionally a porn site, but it's the best porn site because we all pretend it's actually an archive.

That feature doesn't sound like a conventional social media feature? A recommended page is pretty common for art sites??

Bumping to say I would enjoy a recommended page. Could be based on the art you have favorited.

...Did the 2 of you really just necro 2 similar threads from over 2 years ago to deliver the important news that you agree/don't agree? Cause it sure looks like it .

Anyways...

lets not speed up the enshittenfaction even more by adding algorithms, it would also slow down the site even more

Dumb AI bs isn't the only way to handle this. I'm working on a proposal that does something similar currently (see here ) that uses the same algorithm as early spell checkers; it's simple & performant, & should work just fine for specific enough queries.

A recommended page is the one thing this site would need to basically function flawlessly for everyday browsing, sure it's already nice but maybe I don't want to see a broad group including "certain" interests, that's why we have the blacklist, but no whitelist? No recommendation page is almost a crime in the modern age

Ah, hell no. This is such a bad idea. e621 is one of the few places where you can escape from recommendation algorithms in the modern age.

There is a huge difference between a black box that takes in every single bit of data it can get and something like danbooru's recommender
One requires a massive amount of creepy tracking and likely invasions of privacy, the other could theoretically be done with public data (it literally just needs a list of favorites)

The site does not have the analytics necessary for the black box type of algorithm, nor am I convinced it would be used enough to warrant the upkeep of one

Donovan hit the nail on the head; I'll reiterate:

This isn't the YouTube recommendation feed, & it's not a recommendation algorithm at all, it's a related post algorithm (as said in the title of the linked page); currently, you give it a post (& optionally a search query to narrow down the amount of posts to scan through), and it randomly picks a couple hundred posts & orders them by how closely their tags match the given post's tags. That's it. If you're curious/concerned, it's just using Levenshtein distance. I'm considering expanding/reworking/spinning off this at some point to generate recommendations from favorites, but again, that's both a "maybe" for the far-off future & a whole different ballgame from Twitter/YouTube/whatever recommendation feeds.

I'll also say I've put this on the back burner for now.

If you want a recommendation tool that exists right now, I'd recommend mormonara's e621 Wrapped; it tells you your most liked tags & generates recommendations from them. If I do make alterations/extensions to my project, I'd likely do something similar to them, if you want a point of reference.
