this isn't a humanoid and telling someone their character isn't a fake species isn't something I think you can do.

Sure it is. I can't just make a generic fox OC and call it a Snorlax. If it's a fictional species worth tagging, it should have a canonical design to base what it looks like off of. If a character deviates so much from the design that it no longer looks like what it's supposedly derived from, it shouldn't be tagged as such regardless of how much the creator says otherwise. If it still contains elements of the design but also adds other elements from other species, it's a hybrid of that species with another. And just like a hybrid fox+cow would still be a canid, a hybrid vortian+ram would still be an alien.

In this case, though, I think I agree that implicating vortian to alien_humanoid isn't right. It would be possible to make a hybrid vortian+ram anthro, meaning it would be an anthro hybrid, not a humanoid hybrid. Implicating it to alien1 would make more sense since you probably shouldn't imply a form from the species.

1 Although alien itself is kind of a bad tag as a species, since an "alien" doesn't look like anything. It's just an indication of origin (if it's not "from here", it's alien, as opposed to native).

I'm inclined to agree given it's also used in reference to say, invasive species such as the lionfish

Alien just needs some cleaning, IMO. There is a certain cultural concept of alien, and certain creatures that, immediately upon seeing, one would immediately recognize as “alien”—Roswell grey, irken, or little green men (toy story), for the most stereotypical examples. Considering the many other species in that category, I think there still needs to be an umbrella tag for all of them. I just think that species like wookie and lombax should be omitted—while technically aliens, they don’t match the popular conception of an alien. They’re basically just furries.

really my only concern with alien implicates is alien_humanoid variety as it can force posts to either be invalidly tagged, or be excluded from valid tags due to the associated implications.
