Aliasing boa → boa_(disambiguation)

Reason:

I thought this might be a good time to try out the idea in forum #145081 and see how it functions in practice.

2 meanings:

  • a type of snake
  • a type of clothing/accessory made of fur or feathers

At the moment, I've already cleared out the boa tag which was a mix of the two definitions.

  • Snakes went into boa_constrictor
  • The accessory all got dumped into feather_boa for the moment (even though some are fur). I don't know how to split/retag them, but for now at least they are all in the same place.
  • I made a disambiguation page for boa.

Although we now at least have one disambiguation page, it will need to be checked every now and then. It would be nice to be able to search for them easily and go through them in bulk (hence the *_(disambiguation) suffix).

boa_(clothing) works well enough for the accessory.

While I wouldn't exactly call it clothing, I wouldn't exactly not. That probably works well enough for the purpose.

While I do agree it's not technically clothing, it's the best tag I can come up with.

Hey, it's better than just sticking them all in feather_boa. ;)

I wanted to give it a few days to see what people thought of the concept of this disambiguation idea. And so far, the response hasn't found any major flaws with it. I like the idea, and think it could turn into a great solution for major tags that have multiple common meanings. I do think we'll have to be careful not to overdo it for every instance of mixed use since that could get overwhelming with too many of them to keep track of (and not all of them need it this type of solution). But for the ones that do, this might be exactly the kind of solution we need. Since there hasn't been any major objections or potential problems, I agree it's about time to test it and see if it works as well in practice as it sounds like it would in theory.

So this is approved.

If any potential issues come up with this, feel free to bring it up here for discussion. This type of a tag is still in a trail phase to see how well this idea works. If after a few weeks it seems to work well and without any major issues, then we can see about doing a few more like this. I do want to make sure it works well before doing too many though. That way it would be easier to refine if it needs it.

Also, I think the boa_(clothing) tag idea is a good one. Trying to figure out how to tag the fur ones that aren't feathers when "feather" is in the name has been an issue for awhile. This way we could put them all under boa_(clothing). Or if there's enough to differentiate them, then we could implicate feather_boa to --> boa_(clothing). Probably the latter option.
