I also had my blacklist fail to block what I wanted, which is feces in general, due to the term "scat" in it being changed to "scatplay" due to this bulk tag update. Didn't notice that it wasn't blocking posts with feces depictions until today when I got blindsided by a "hyper_feces" tagged image.

Thought at first the post was mis-tagged since it didn't have the tag "scat," but the comment on the post from someone complaining their blacklist didn't block the post hinted to me to check my blacklist, which quickly revealed the tag name change to one less encompassing than it used to be.

Now, I'm not saying revert the bulk tag update, but a change of a tag in users' blacklists to one that covers less, without informing those users, is gonna lead to a few nasty surprises like I had.

Before this change, scat referred to what we now call scatplay. Your blacklist would have failed before too. Please update your blacklist to include feces if you don't want to see any feces
(I'm sorry that happened though, that sucks)

Oh huh, I thought this suggestion was dead in the water, and then noticed the implications today. I am surprised to see that someone took up the mantle, but glad that it happened.

It's not dead until it's rejected, and can be revived even then.

This BUR would have prevented having to remove scat on a ton of non-sexual posts in the past year?

To explain for anyone new searching:

poop (the noun) was already aliased / converting to Feces.
Scat (the fetish) was converted to Scatplay.

There are instances where poop (the noun) can exist separately from scat (the fetish), e.g. a poop emoji.

Because poop, feces and scat were all basically synonymous with each other, scat was being over-tagged to include any instance of poop (the noun), instead of just scat (the fetish) as intended. A good number of blocklists (mine included) only blocked scat (the fetish) without blocking poop (the noun), not knowing the difference. The moment "non-fetish" poop shows up, it bypasses that blocklist tag.

I personally think there maybe should have been more clarity before or during the change, or some kind of notification so people knew to adjust their blacklist now that more posts are being tagged with one without the other. But w/e, three months of hindsight, and too late for me.

TLDR

Poop / feces is the main category. Scat / scatplay is a subcategory. Lotta people accidentally blocked Scat instead of Poop. Tags have been updated for clarity, block feces instead of scatplay.

If my understanding how everything works is right (maybe), the mass update from scat -> scatplay wouldn't have changed blacklists because it wasn't an alias. But scat being aliased to feces should have updated blacklists, resulting in feces being the blacklisted tag?

I've always had an empty blacklist, so can't confirm it actually did work that way. But I think in theory it should have done.

At minimum, any people adding scat to their blacklist in the future will resolve to feces and blacklist the vast majority of the content.

actually my blacklist had scat removed, scatplay added, and posts with feces (which i didn't want to see) were being shown. tracked this thread down as the culprit. updated my tags.

scat had always meant what scatplay covers now. You should have blacklisted feces in the first place. You've noticed because people are (by force via the alias) tagging better
