create implication 14th_century -> ancient_furry_art

Is 14th century really "ancient"? It's definitely old, but "ancient" makes me think much more of cave paintings and ancient Egyptian murals.

Incidentally, Wikipedia has a definition for ancient history, anything "in the period 3000 BC – AD 500".

There was a brief discussion about it the last time year tags got restructured, in topic #28391 and topic #28122.

Essentially, ancient_furry_art is used to mean "pre-fandom art".
I considered that preferable to having a modern_era tag for "fandom-era art", as that tag would have to be applied to 99% of posts on the site. Which is silly.

First of all, thank you for this BUR, Supina. :) My own Year BURs could never be complete, so supplements like these will be necessary as more years get added.

20th_century currently implies ancient_furry_art.

As bitWolfy says, for e621's purposes, ancient_furry_art covers everything before 1980 as being "ancient". For the same reason, 20th_century covers everything produced 1979 and before. In this case, it's "ancient" not because it's really old but because it came before the "modern era", much in the same way children often look at stuff before their time as "prehistoric".

Why this time range? It actually didn't start with me as NotUncommon had already BURed everything 1980 to 2020 to meta some time earlier as this pretty much covered the contemporary furry fandom. My BURs simply made meta as many previous years as possible and implicated them to various century tags. I wanted to build off of NotUncommon's logic, so defined his range (1980-now) as modern_era (even though 1980-2000 are technically part of the 20th century; 1979 is pretty much an arbitrary cutoff point that serves our purposes). Ancient_furry_art was pointed out to me by Supina and considering there was justified resistance to modern_era, I bowed to their logic and went that route.

It was a good exercise for me to understand that I have to set aside ego and stubbornness when it comes to making these things.
