Topic: [REJECTED] Alias Removal For Sylbreon

remove alias hybrid (165460) -> sylbreon (0)

Reason: Okay, I've commented this on a post because i had heck no idea what i was doing. I'm actually gonna have to post it so other's may as well notice. My request is to simply revert this back to a standalone species and remove the alias.

It doesn't really narrow down to the Sylbreon as a hybrid "species", like what tags should do. It might be a hybrid but the word Sylbreon isnt the word Hybrid. And whenever we search for "Sylbreon" we dont get the Sylveon-umbreon hybrid. instead we get posts that are tagged Hybrid. No trace of this specific hybrid species at all. I don't know why the idea of needing to alias it to that but it certainly doesn't work with the word Hybrid. Sylbreon might be, yes, a Hybrid. but then again it states two pokemon as a hybrid species, not the word hybrid itself.
Also, the Hybrid "Species" was called Sylbreon by a lot of people. so aliasing it with the Hybrid tag makes it loose purpose, and as a result, we get is a bunch of species that could vary from non-pokemon, non-eeveelution, but Foxes, Canines and etc. It doesn't search for the specific sylveon-umbreon hybrid. It search for all of everything that's hybrid.

EDIT: The bulk update request #1028 (forum #312069) has been rejected by @Rainbow_Dash.

Given that far, far more well-established hybrid terms in the furry fandom such as "folf" get aliased to hybrid, I see no reason for this tag to be independant either. I might not 100% agree with it, but we have to keep everything to the same standard. Until Nintendo/Gamefreak introduce hybrid pokemon with blended names like this, the alias stands.

Another problem is, "Sylbreon" isn't really a defined species. There are many ways to creatively mix a sylveon and umbreon and get a "Sylbreon" but which look nothing alike.

Again it is a community created species. For ocs and such. Minttu for example. It may not be an official species but i think the alias wont at all let us see the glorious thing.

Well i guess you're right in this case... Is there a way to avoid the alias on your own search? Or will it always go on for that?

So, unofficial, with no authoritative definition. There's nothing stopping me from drawing a sylveon and giving it an umbreon color scheme (the opposite of minttu_(loimu)) and calling it a Sylbreon. Or drawing an umbreon with an umbreon color scheme, but giving it sylveon-like ribbons, and calling it a Sylbreon. My use of the term isn't any more or less valid than any other fan's use of the term, given that it's not a real or official thing.

You know, there's this tag called pokémon_fusion...

Hmm. Shouldn't that be aliased to hybrid as well? Or at least, implicate hybrid instead of fusion. Or something, I don't know it looks very messy here.

fusion wiki says:
A combination of two or more characters or items leading to a new character or item.

But a pokémon fusion is most often used to depict a hybrid of two or more pokemon species, not a fusion of characters. Ash Greninja would be a pokemon fusion (two pokemon characters, Ash and his Greninja, fused together into one character), but a generic sylveon and umbreon combining into a new species would be a hybrid rather than a fusion. Unless you want to argue that a hybrid species is a fusion...

No, I will not. I'm just saying that pokémon_fusion tag exists.

I've seen some posts with this, including emmy_(battle_fennec), but lacking any interest in this I stopped looking, until this thread showed up.

I think it's better to leave them separate, but can be used together when criterias are met.

What I mean is, currently a lot, if not most, of posts under pokémon_fusion should be hybrid instead. They're depicting an OC that's a hybrid species, whereas pokémon_fusion implicating fusion is causing those posts to be mistagged, since they're not fusions of 2+ characters into one character. So if people use and will keep using pokémon_fusion when they mean hybrid, it needs to be aliased. Or if someone wants to go through the trouble of cleaning out the ~700 posts and get people to stop using pokémon_fusion when they mean hybrid, the tags can stay as they are (although that wouldn't do anything for this thread's issue, since Sylbreon is a(n unofficial) hybrid species, not a character fusion).

This request is backwards, to start with. Sylbreon is aliased to hybrid, not the other way around. So even if people were to agree with this, the script is incorrect and wouldn't be able to go through.

I feel like a pokemon_hybrid / hybrid_pokemon tag could actually be useful. They've had a decent amount of popularity, to varying degrees, so it could help people find actual pokemon x pokemon hybrids, and then alias things like sylbreon to that, instead. Maybe that's just me, though, since I'm also of the mind that hybrid could do with a few sub-tags, to help at least a little bit more to find specific hybrids. ...Not sure how people feel about that, though.

Hell, set it up, I'm down for it, or at least having a thread discussing it. I have a generalised hatred of "garbage bin" tags like that, much like wastebasket classifications in biology. Why bother tagging something at all if it's such a general tag that it's about bloody useless, after all?
