Topic: Lunastra (Alias removal and rearrangement)

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

lunastra is female, while teostra is male. It's inconvenient having to sift through teostra art when you are specifically looking for lunastra art. I think it would be nice if lunastra had a separate tag instead of being an alias of teostra. This is a request for lunastra to be removed from the teostra alias and become it's own separate species tag.

I'm not very familiar with Monster Hunter. Is there specific design differences between Lunastra and Teostra, besides one being defined male and the other being defined female? Could there be ambiguity in which one you're looking at if you can't see their genitals (or if they're depicted crossgender), and if so, is there a separate species name that encompasses just the two of them?

Sexual dimorphism: Lunastra (female) is blue, Teostra (male) is red. Their horns are also different.

Lunastra is blue and her horns look completely different, while Teostra is red and his horns are completely different. They also have different eye colors (lunastra yellow, teostra blue). There is no ambiguity between them, you'd easily be able to tell the difference based on their designs without having to see any genitals.

I see. Curious why they got aliased together then, I don't see anything with a quick forum search.

While there are gender aliases for certain species based on colour differences (diablos_(mh) & black_diablos), others have been treated differently based on design differences (rathalos & rathian).

I'm not sure how good Teostra & Lunastra will fall into these categories. Apart from colour, there are minimal design changes between the two models.
Based on this model extract, Teostra (right) has a larger mane and smaller horns while Lunastra (left) has larger horns and a smaller mane.

There is no singular species name that encompasses the both of them as they are treated as two separate species in the game.

I am not terribly familiar with Monster Hunter. But these do look sufficiently different to warrant separate tags, based on the distinct horn shapes.

It's one of those... questionable aliases that ImpidiDinkaDoo made with no input from the community.

Judging by the comments on pictures of Lunastra many people including myself are very annoyed and confused with the fact that these two separate monsters are lumped together despite being separate in-game. This is like if you took the riolu tag and had it as an alias for the lucario tag, along with several evolutions of pokemon.

Yeah, looking it up, these two are even more different than latias and latios, who get separated tags. I wouldn't be opposed to both implying some family tag since they're meant to be related, such as elder_dragon_stra or stra_(monster_hunter) but apparently Toa Tesukatora are also a part of that family and I'm not sure what name could be inclusive of them. I guess they're all considered leonine_dragon?

Like what the others have said Lunastra is different enough than Teostra the she needs her own tag and not be aliased with Teostra.

As a player of Monster Hunter who hunted plenty of Teostra (who is quite the pushover in MH world) and Lunastra (who was a pain to hunt in MH World) i would like the mods to seperate the tags please.
