The bulk update request #496 is active.

create alias sen_to_chihiro_no_kamikakushi (0) -> spirited_away (214)
create alias kaonashi (0) -> no-face (17)
create alias susuwatari (0) -> soot_sprite_(ghibli) (13)
create alias soot_gremlin (0) -> soot_sprite_(ghibli) (13)
create implication chihiro_ogino (56) -> spirited_away (214)
create implication haku_(spirited_away) (134) -> spirited_away (214)
create implication no-face (17) -> spirited_away (214)
create implication yubaba (2) -> spirited_away (214)
create implication radish_spirit (23) -> spirited_away (214)
create implication soot_sprite_(ghibli) (13) -> ghibli (948)

Reason:

  • sen_to_chihiro_no_kamikakushi is the Japanese name for the same movie
  • Chihiro, Haku, No-Face, Yubaba, and the radish spirit are all characters from the movie (that I found tags for, anyways. There's probably others.)
  • Kaonashi is the Japanese name for No-Face.
  • Susuwatari is the Japanese name for the soot sprites in both Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro. I couldn't find an English tag for them, so I just put this one in here.

(Also I've never done a BUR or any alias/implication requests so I'm sorry for any mistakes)

Edit: Added aliases regarding the susuwatari tag, to include official English translations of the term. Keeping the _(ghibli) suffix on some off-chance someone else decides to use soot_sprite for something.

EDIT: The bulk update request #496 (forum #301458) has been approved by @Millcore.

In my opinion, it would be better to alias susuwatari -> soot_sprite_(ghibli) and imply soot_sprite_(ghibli) -> ghibli.

Unless there are non-Ghibli susuwatari in Japanese folklore. In that case, mass update susuwatari -> susuwatari_(ghibli) and modify the alias.

At the moment, all susuwatari posts depict the Ghibli kind.

Yeah, I wasn't sure what to do with that one, but I put it in as a placeholder since I can't find anything that's not Ghibli-related when I search for it outside of e6. Considering that, I didn't think it'd cause any harm to use in the BUR, as it seemed unlikely for something else to also use susuwatari. Plus, from what I can tell, their English name isn't very consistent. I've frequently seen "soot sprite" or "soot ball" used, as well as variants that use "dust" in place of "soot". Unfortunately, it's been a long time since I've watched either movie to remember what term they actually used in the dubs, so I'm basing this off of whatever I can find when I look them up.

According to Wikipedia , they were indeed created and used exclusively by Ghibli.

My suggestion (based on official translations):

alias susuwatari -> soot_sprite_(ghibli)
alias black_soot -> soot_sprite_(ghibli)
alias soot_gremlin -> soot_sprite_(ghibli)

I don't know if including dust_bunny would be good, since it could potentially be used for non-Ghibli related inanimated objects.

If you have time please take a look at my two latest BURs and give some feedback. I appreciate it.

πŸ‘οΌ‹οΌ‘ : I think Susuwatari has Not been used except by Ghibli.

If I remember correctly, Susuwatari in Spirited_Away is the Soot that was given magic.γ€€In other words, they're magic-powered soot.
So I guess dust_bunny means "how they look", like Makkuro_Kurosuke.
( The former means a rabbit made of dust, and the latter means something black. )
They are not rabbits, so there would be no need to include dust_bunny.

Yeah, but I like to check to make sure a name isn't used somewhere else, just in case.

I can add the aliases for soot_sprite and soot_gremlin, but "black soot" is... pretty generic. I don't personally think it's needed. And as has been already stated, dust_bunny wouldn't be good, since that's its own thing outside of Ghibli, and isn't really a species so much as just balls of dust and hair and miscellaneous items.
