Topic: can you upload stuff from toyhou.se if you've gotten permission?

Posted under General

The artist who's stuff I post isn't active, but gave me permission to upload any of their old art of theirs that I find on their toyhou.se + some old stuff they're going to upload for me.

can I link toyhou.se as a source? is that allowed? I was reading the wiki but wasn't sure and didn't want to get in trouble.

If not what would be the best way to archive them?

As far I know, yes you can.

Yes, you can. There's no rules against the type of sources as long as it is not linked to illegal/pirated content.

You must have been mistaken by the warning pop-up when trying to direct-link an upload.
Toyhou.se is not a whitelisted source, meaning that you need to download the image manually first and then upload the file from your device to the Upload page.

ahhh that makes sense, i saw that it wasn't on the whitelist when researching but though whitelist meant what i could use as sources, thanks so much dude

I'm not sure what toyhou.se is tbh, but could it be made into a whitelisted source?

it's mostly a character storage site, where people keep character's and their art.

of course i won't be posting all of the art from this character's gallery because the artist is bat shit insane and the character has over 11,000 pieces of said character hosted there lmao

I feel like this is kind wrong question to be asked. Basically any website is allowed and you can put almost anything in source field as long as it is where you got the content or where the first party posted the content. This is also why there's the "no source/I'm source" button, as with some posts there's no sources at all. But you can essentially post from wherever.

Two restricting factors are the rules, which are that you cannot link to pirated content or real life porn (but e.g. linking to tweet is still fine even if the twitter account has pirated material and linking to pornhub video is fine as long as it's link for the content in question, etc.) and another one is that direct URL upload does have whitelist to avoid abuse or possibly utilizing loopholes in sites code.

Another consideration is that if you do post from third party websites like image boards, other boorus, funny image sites, etc. you are risking of posting lower file quality content (higher compression, watermarks, third party edited, cropped, etc.) or paid material which is DNP and againts the rules. You can and most likely will get record for posting paid material, even if you were not aware of it to avoid malicious people pleading ignorance and encouraging people to source their content.

However in this instance, you are posting artists material from their own source with permission, so there's zero problems then. Also I could've sworn we had more content from toyhou.se but apparently not (source:*toyhou.se*).

If you have their permission, make sure they authorize your account so you can get the full resolution, non-watermarked versions of everything.
