If general tags are supposed to be about the meaningful content of a post, and meta tags are supposed to be about the nature of the post, then the tags below may need to be reclassified to 'meta'. This is definitely not an exhaustive list, but this should hopefully help us make use of the category.

Notes:

• I’m pretty certain epilepsy_warning and sound_warning should remain artist tags so that they're immediately noticed at the top of the page.
• I think tags like invalid_tag, invalid_background, invalid_color, and invalid_color_(tan) (Why are these two even separate?) are supposed to have their own category.
• I think censored should be a meta tag, but tags describing the type of censorship should remain as 'general' (heart_censor, censor_bar, convenient_censorship, etc.) since those deal more with content.
• I think video_games should either be categorized as 'lore', 'meta', or 'copyright'.
• I’m uncertain if the tags text (and text related tags like dialogue, apology, caption, etc.), border, and detailed_background should be changed to meta since I feel they deal too heavily with image content.
• This wiki page (https://e621.net/wiki_pages/10866) may potentially house more meta tags.

It looks like this is what the new "request BUR" link is for (BUR == bulk update request).
Seems like, per the provided help, you would feed in lines like

category bust_portrait meta
category url meta

(it's easy to generate this from a list of tags using a basic regexp search+replace (^(.+)$ -> category \1 meta))

.. I guess the intended usage would be something like, enter all the ones you were pretty certain of into the BUR script, and then start a thread to discuss individually handling the ones you were uncertain of.

I'm not sure that the text, color palette, or portrait tags really belong as meta tags, to me they feel more like information about the content of a post rather than information about the post itself.

unavailable_at_source should be a meta tag, since it's about where the post had originally come from before it was removed from there.

I'd like to add that charcoal_(artwork) is not filed as a meta tag as of yet.

It looks like the tags added by @NotUncommon (like long_image and tall_image) weren't included in the BUR and thus haven't been moved to the meta category.

Sorry for the late reply. When I said that I'd at it to the list, I meant the list on this forum not the BUR. If I get around to making a second BUR, I'll add them. Until then, tags that aren't in the meta category but could belong there will be marked with [!] on the forum post.

What would "dated" even mean? That it has a date written on it? That it's subject matter is "dated" (i.e. no longer relevant, didn't age well)? That it depicts someone on a romantic date? Seems more like it should be disambiguated.

Seems to mean the first of those options.

In my personal tagging (drawings) I use 'datestamp', which is.. not strictly accurate, but at least less ambiguous.

By e6's definition, webcomics (online comics hosted exclusively on its own site or a hosting site with monetization) aren't allowed here. In the colloquial sense of the term, most comics here are webcomics (comics on the web/online comics), so it would probably be better to have a tag for non-webcomic comics, if there are any. Looking at that wiki, it sounds like that really means webcomic_character (which would make sense as a character type, like fan_character or background_character).

I think lol_comments should be a meta tag since it's about the comments of a post and not the actual post itself.

2_frame_animation should be meta; animated and other related tags already are.

I think text itself should be fine as a general tag since it's describing something in the image, like hair or wings, although the specific languages (english_text, japanese_text, etc) are good as meta tags since it's information about the text. Otherwise it looks good to me.

I removed text from the BUR. I can somewhat see the argument for having text of specific languages as a Meta category tag whilst keeping text itself a General category tag, though I'm not sure if I concur with it. However, that seems like a discussion better suited for the *_text BUR once I've got that compiled.

There was a discussion about this some time ago, and unfortunately I can't find the forum thread, but I don't think there is a clear/useful definition for what constitutes a spoiler. For some people, once a piece of media is out, it's fair game as long as that media is tagged, for others, a few months is fine, while others might consider spoilers to last forever. Some people also consider anything not specifically showcased in pre-release material to be a spoiler, while others consider only twists or very-end stuff to be spoilers, while yet others consider any non-critical non-decision-factoring information to be spoilers (official trailers have spoiled games and movies, especially second or third trailers, for instance). Some people might not want to know anything about the new monsters in Monster Hunter Rise, for example, so they can discover and experience them fresh while playing, while other people might want to know every released (but not leaked) detail possible to be as prepared as the developers want you to be going into it.

Consequently, someone blacklisting a spoilers tag could still end up seeing what they don't want to see, and at the same time not see things they would say are fine.
