I got off my PC and into bed, then hopped on e621. I searched the first tag I always search for, and I was greeted saying to login so that I may view certain tags. I let my google account handle my passwords; it creates a strong one at random and I don't have to remember it, and it really only fails in situations like this, where I'm not on my computer running my Google Chrome browser.
Why though?
Okay, things like cub are at least understandable; I'm sure that there are governments that ban all depictions of underaged characters in sexually explicit scenarios, even if they're fictitious, anthropomorphic non-human creatures. I don't agree with it, but I can understand it. I mean, I wish there was at least an option to disable the blacklist entirely at the bottom of the website, even while logged out, but I understand it. However, why is Watersports banned? Or scat?
e621 has been around for many years. All of the bad PR has been had. All of the governments that would ban those tags have already blacklisted this site using their firewall.
This is unfair to artists who have the majority of their portfolio in these categories. They can no longer gain guest traffic and exposure using these tags. They will have to rely on those who already have an e621 account.
In my opinion, site resources should not be withheld from those who do not have an account. An account should be used strictly for website tools, such as creating a favorites list, or commenting and replying to people on posts, or uploading art, or, get this, a blacklist.
