I threw that out when I was doing work on dtext in general. It was undocumented and saw basically no usage.

I seem to have a problem regarding Webm files on e621.

Since yesterday, I've been given a green screen whenever I try to watch Webm files. The play button works and I can see the thumbnail image, but the moment the video starts everything turns to a solid green that doesn't go away.

I tried to clear the cache but that didn't work.

I use Google Chrome. The videos work on Samsung Internet.

I may have found a bug:

I wanted to add 1-2 more tags to my blacklist. Under Account/Settings, after I add the tags (it lists the tags when I start typing, so that part is O.K.) and press 'Submit' att the bottom of the page, it refreshes, but the following message appears on top:
"Email has already been taken."
And my blacklist reverts back to the previous status. I had my e-mail for this account from the start, and have no intention on changing it. Did anyone else encounter this? Can I do anything to fix it?

That means you have multiple accounts with the same email address. To find out where the other accounts are, send a password reset email from your current account, which should cause you to receive one email for each account associated with that address. Then delete all the accounts you don't want to use.

Wow, your solution worked! I had no idea another account existed, but after deleting everything went back to normal. Out of curiosity though, because I recall updating my blacklist not so long ago, and since then I had not created any other account: why did this only become a problem now, if this account must've been around for quite a long time? Or could it have something to do with me signing up for e6ai with the same e-mail?

e6ai is completely disconnected from e621
If this didn't happen in the past, something changed recently to better handle duplicates

The ifrit_(ff) and ifrit_(final_fantasy) tags redirect to "iflyte_(ff)", but no where is that the name for Ifrit in the series. I can't put in a ticket to redirect it because the two former tags already exist.

yet the file is a .webm file that is within the size limit and plays correctly in the preview

I can't search mentions of myself in comments, because the underscores in my username cause the search engine to search each part of my username individually.

This has been an issue for me for years, but I've been unsure about whether or not it's intended, and it rarely actually meant anything.

But, I read the upload limit page recently, and it says that unrestricted uploaders have no upload limit. Despite being unrestricted and having no upload limit listed, I DO have an upload limit and have hit it before while having unrestricted uploads. As of the time of this post, I have 22 remaining uploads.

The 30 per hour limit is universal, it applies to even site administration. The unlimited uploads permission only disregards the limit deletions and approvals apply.

Privileged+ bypass the 150/hour edit limit, which also counts against uploads. No one bypasses the 30 uploads/hour limit.

Just got on today and was checking some of the videos I downloaded, only to notice none of the files I downloaded from e621 will play. And I checked, it's only every file from e621. They work on e621, but the second I download them, they refuse to play. Does anyone know what the problem is?

Not sure if this is the result of a bug but there's something wrong with the tag "dominant femboy" it autocorrects to "girly" the same way "femboy" does. I get why femboy becomes girly but dominant femboy is specific and shouldn't become the general girly. Should correct to girly dominant or femboydom etc.

Femboy is aliased to girly since they mean the same thing for tagging on e621, and "girly" is a supplemental tag to male characters. Supplemental tags to sex tags don't generally get combo tags alongside other sexes (i.e. you'd tag dominant_male+girly, rather than dominant_male+dominant_girly).

That's a general issue that there is no real way to "group" tags that belong together. In your example, probably most images that will pop up will have a dominant male and a (submissive) girly male, not a dominant+girly male. But there's no easy solution to that, I guess.

Something that has been bugging me forever, and is technically a wording bug:
When a post belongs to a parent with multiple child posts, it says for example:
"Parent: post #4073948 that has a sibling (learn more) » show"
But that's wrong. It's not that the parent post has a sibling (though it could have). It should probably be worded something like:
"Parent: post #4073948

I've been having the same problem for a couple months now (green video playback, Google Chrome browser), although it only seems to affect some Webm posts and not others. Posts marked as "Anim" rather than "Webm" seem to be unaffected and work fine. I've tried whatever solutions google threw at me, no dice. Would appreciate confirmation that it's not an issue on the site's end.

you're in Add To Set mode, not View mode, click the dropdown menu directly below the search bar and change it.

When viewing tag/desc history on mobile, pressing show description gives a text box too wide to view on mobile. It's also very challenging to add notes to a post.

As of the most recent DB export, 716 tags are similarly afflicted. It's a longstanding and very annoying bug which nobody has shown any interest in fixing.

It isn't really something that can be easily fixed. It's a consistency issue, which are bound to happen at e621's scale. When you notice them, you can bug me (or anyone Janitor+) and I'll fix them. I'll look at those which you've here listed later.

I've gone ahead and fixed up all of those which you listed.

No, a consistency issue is when a tag merely has an inaccurate number of posts. I have no doubt there are a large number of those tags as well. What all 716 of those tags were, were tags that had been aliased away and yet still had more than 0 posts. That's something that would be trivially fixable with a sanity check, and the effects of not bothering to do that are far more annoying than the number simply being wrong.

On the subject of sanity checks, it should also trigger an automatic recount (including for all related tags) whenever the claimed post count for a tag goes negative.

Thanks for fixing those, I was considering asking myself but thought it was a little ridiculous to send a list of a few hundred tags that I'd noticed being wrong. Never considered using the DB export to identify all of them though.

The antecedent tag would end up with a positive number (it should obviously be 0, because it's aliased) and the consequent tag would be the correct number minus the tag count for the antecedent tag. If I had to take a guess, I'd say the IndexUpdateJob is running too soon after the TagAliasJob, but I've never been able to replicate this on my own instance.

EDIT: There's been a TODO in the code for about 4 years which mentions a race condition with indexing jobs.

I meant a more general issue of things not happening in the right order rather than a consistency issue, I couldn't think of a better word

It is exactly an inaccurate number of posts. A higher number is cached than what is actually present. The fixer page makes this clear.

Notice "Post count db cache": 3 and "Post count actual": 0

The API post versions endpoint does not seem to handle empty results correctly. Not sure if bug or stupid so I'll just post it here for now:

Compare:

• Regular response on post endpoint with empty result: https://e621.net/posts.json?tags=testtesttest&page=10 (with added page just to illustrate it even handles that, even if the result itself is obviously already empty)
• Error response on post versions endpoint with empty result: https://e621.net/post_versions.json?search[updater_name]=testtesttest&page=10 (same issue without page parameter but I noticed this error because a later page should have been empty and instead came back with an error)
• Regular response on post versions endpoint with non-empty result:https://e621.net/post_versions.json?search[updater_name]=ARandomPersonIsHere&page=1 (so the request format itself seems fine to me)

I can open a proper bug thread if needed, if this is indeed a bug (which it seems to be in my eyes).

Thanks, I briefly looked there but did not see that issue for some reason. If it's a known issue that's fine. Makes pagination a bit more awkward but I can work around it by just ignoring the error if it happens.

Blip search is broken. Whenever I try using it, I get an unexpected error.

I am not able to view/manage my API key, as when I go to Account -> Manage API Access, I just get a page that says "Not found."

You may have some issue in your browser, you should be seeing a password prompt

Your browser may be doing something funky with that, trying a different browser might help

If you want some technical details, that password form sends a POST request to e621 - something in your browser is interrupting that and either converting it into a GET, or ignoring the contents completely

I can't reproduce this with my account nor a normal user, you say anything? Like searching literally any word, letter body, etc gives that error? I'll ask someone to properly look into it since I can't look at exceptions

I can replicate it (only with a regular user account, doesn't happen with priv) by searching for anything that gives no results. Presumably anything that provides less results than the page limit would do the same.

What are you talking about? If you click on the hamburger at the top of the page Popular is still there.

I can't upload an image. All I get is 'Error: Unknown error! undefined' when I try to upload the image. It's very high res about 10000x10000, so I don't know if that's the issue or not

I remember this happening within the last few months. Do you remember when searching for anything really caused errors? I had the hypothesis that if a search didn't give a full page of results within an allotted time, it would give back an error. That problem mostly got fixed, but I noticed that it still mainly happened, just that the allotted time got bigger. Now the problem rarely occurs. However, it seems like something similar is still occurring, just with blip searches rather than post searches.

EDIT: Yeah, I think it's based off of search time. Simple words like "test" or "wizard" work fine, but searching "vaush" or for myself glitches out.
