Topic: Why is cat_tail an acceptable tag but not cat_ears ?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I just had a question, i cant ask in dm due to hitting my dm limit.

I just got told the tag cat_ears is not acceptable as a tag.

Even though there was 42 images tagged with it, and there is the tag cat_tail

My question is simply this, what do you tag a image of someone wearing fake cat_ears with?

fake_cat_ears is what you're looking for.

you are tagging "cat ears", but that gets aliased to a disambiguation page. Look at the disambiguation page and tag what is appropriate to the post instead, since "cat_ears" can be too vague for proper usage.

Disambiguation tags can be populated sometimes, that's not a crime. However, the intent is always to remove or replace with a more appropriate tag, and the cat_ears_(disambiguation) wiki itself lists what the tag for fake cat ears is, as well as why the tag isn't used more generally.
cat_tail's own wiki also provides information on that tag.

So why doesn't cat_ears retag to fake_cat_ears if cat_eats_(disambiuation) isnt allowed anymore? Oversight?

That makes sense, thanks.

because of instances where people tag cat ears in general when they aren't fake, than it would just apply an invalid tag to a post unwittingly to the poster

Though from a certain perspective it does make more sense to just cut out the middle-man, having the disambiguation tag instead of skipping straight to fake_cat_ears seems to make it easier to check for mistags.
