Topic: wrist_cuff vs. Handcuffs

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Is there a functional difference between these two tags? I couldn't find any discussion on wrist_cuff and the wiki for it is empty, so I'm not too sure on the definition.

Incidentally, I tried using the alias suggestion form for this, but it kept telling me wrist_cuff was already aliased to another tag, but it doesn't appear to be. Am I missing something?

If there's a big enough difference to warrant both tags, then I'd suggest aliasing wrist_cuff to wrist_cuffs, to match ankle_cuffs, handcuffs, etc.

It has an alias to it, so it is "aliased" from a tag. They'd have to remove the alias and apply it to another one.

And, I was actually wondering about usage. I was trying to find out a good term for a cloth "bracelet" (obviously not jewelry) that isn't high enough to be an armband but is not exactly a wristband either. I don't remember the post it was on, but I was reminded of sleeve cuffs. Would wrist cuff work?

Ah, that makes sense. Thanks

I was interpreting wrist_cuff as bondage gear like ankle_cuffs, rather than just an accessory. As for your case, sleeve_cuffs does exist, and I guess it's either that, a new tag, or redefining wrist_cuff

Just from the name, I would have assumed that "Wrist Cuff" is basically sleeve cuffs without the sleeves. Should probably clean these out and actually give the wiki page some content explaining it.

You mean separating wrist_cuff into other tags such as bondage_wrist_cuff ?

Guessing sleeve_cuff is another way of saying shirt_cuffs.
shirt_cuffs wiki says "The cuff(s) of a shirt, but detached from it and worn separately. ..."
(by the way, shirt_cuff aliases to shirt_cuffs)

Any objections to starting wiki (page) about wrist-version of bondage cuffs? ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bondage_cuffs )
Have tag be bondage_wrist_cuff ?

At moment 1107 posts tagged with wrist_cuff
("trending tags" sidebar says "wrist cuff 293" for some reason)

with 531 posts tagged with both wrist_cuff AND bondage

so MAYBE about 48% of wrist_cuff would end up under new tag (potentially bondage_wrist_cuff)

Some bondage cuffs for wrists continue to be tagged with handcuffs tag.
(so i would like to edit wording at handcuffs wiki, to hopefully avoid some tag errors in future)

While handcuffs can be used for bondage, they are thin * and usually metal **
(see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Handcuffs )

Most bondage wrist-cuff-restraints are bondage cuffs ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bondage_cuffs )
usually wider and made of leather (or non-metal material)
which spread pressure thus reducing risk of nerve damage etc.

Handcuffs wiki currently says

Handcuffs are a type of cuffs primarily used by police forces to cuff the hands of someone being arrested by applying them on their hands behind their back.
It's also used for BDSM activities to restrain a character from moving their hands or to keep them in a specific place. ...

I'd like to add "usually thin and metal"

I'd like to change the BDSM line to
1) start with something like: "Handcuffs can be used for BDSM ..."
and
2) add something like "usually BDSM wrist restraints are bondage_wrist_cuff (instead of handcuffs), wider which spread out pressure and reduce the risk of injury".

Asking forum if such an edit of handcuffs would be ok.
(I don't want to be too bold and risk a negative record)

* * *

(footnotes below ... feel free to ignore)

footnote * = thin compared with bondage cuffs.

footnote ** = metal except for plastic handcuffs which are usually shaped-differently. ***
(see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plastic_handcuffs )

footnote *** = there are some children's toys that are regular-handcuff-shape, but made of plastic ... but i doubt they will pop up in furry art.
