Reason:

Just like how sock was aliased to socks to make it easier for searching and tagging. It's good to keep it together.

Makes sense

On the other hand, it's far more common to see a single glove of some sort that is meant to be a single glove (baseball glove, butcher's glove, golf glove, etc) than it is to see a single sock, which are only not worn in pairs with particularily quirky people. I'd still rather see it be "sock" instead of "socks" though, given that it's possible for only a single sock to be visible.
