Topic: Alias/Implication Tracking Thread

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

This topic has been locked.

This topic is to assist the approval/deletion of tag aliases/implications. It's getting really hard to find the forum and communicate the tag being approved/deleted so I made this topic to help

Please create the tag first so I'm not searching for it when it's not there and to save me a step having to make it myself

If you made an alias/implication, post it here in this format (I've broken the dtext so it can be seen easier):

Implicating: {{Orange} -> {{fruit}
Reason: an orange is a fruit
Discussion: "link to forum discussion":http:/e621.net/forum/example
Status: Pending

Put down status as "pending" and I will update your post with either "approved" or "deleted" with a reason underneath. The tag doesn't have to be pending on the page; this is just so I can keep track of what tags have been take care of and what haven't in this forum.

This is not at all required but it is suggested if you want to know what has become of your alias/implication and if you want to ensure I see the forum discussion on it. Most times the alias has been approved but the job task is stuck and it will still appear as pending even though it is approved in the system so admins don't keep hitting approve if it says approved here

You can create tag aliases here and implications here by clicking "add" at the bottom

So if we want to make a new alias/implication, we post it here? Because right now, trying to make one in the Tags section isn't working due to 500s blocking it

Updated by anonymous

Also posting them here won't generate pending entries in the alias/implication pages.

I think she means to create them as normal, but then post them in here with a link to the forum thread so that she can more easily find them and find out what the discussion result is before approving/denying it.

Implicating: animal_crossing -> video_games

Discussion thread
Status: Approved
For some reason the tags did not show up as pending

Wow, these can get really deep inside the forums (found mine at page 7). I guess it's a really nice idea to have this thread as an index for all aliases implications.

Exactly this. It makes it much easier for me to communicate why an alias has been approved/denied and read the discussion regarding it. It's completely optional but it'll guarantee the tag gets an explanation

Also if you can't/don't know how to make an alias/implication, just post it here and I'll make it, but I'd still highly prefer you made the tag alias yourself, then post it here

I think this thread's a great idea.

I've been meaning to ask: would it be ok if someone went through and tried to add more of the pending tag alias and implication threads to this list? OR do you only want the OP of the alias/implication to post it here? If you're ok with non-OP's posting it here, I imagine more of them would be sure to get added here. Would that be helpful?

Updated by anonymous

Go for it, it would help to determine what has been approved already so I don't hit approve again and create a second job task

Is there not a smarter way to automate without regular user-intervention like this?
Perhaps have Clippy ask users if they'd like to add anything else other than a default post, or perhaps have a post in this thread, made automatically here? The current solution of this thread seems a bit clunky if it's anything more than a stopgap before a proper fix to the status-listing issue that's affecting mods.

Basically that's what it is (or what we're hoping it is). Tag alias/implication forum-thread tracking is becoming such an issue that we really kind of need to get it out of the forums altogether and into its own little dedicated area of the site, where it can be managed much easier.

We've not yet really discussed a plan-of-action in detail though, so for the time being this thread here will have to be the solution until we figure out something better.

That sounds good, Char. I was hoping this wasn't going to be considered a permanent fix.

Note: I'm not sure the below will tickets because they weren't created via the tag-menu, but punched straight into the forums. I'm not sure whether there's a difference or not under-the-hood but I imagine there is. For now I have marked them with '?' instead of just 'Pending' because they might not even be that.

Since I'm an idiot I just assumed everyone had perfect typing, basically. I made a comment under feedback to make the "create new alias" and "create new implications" more visible to [they told me I might be dyslexic but screw it]s like me.

Updated by anonymous

I'll get to these and start pushing them through once the system is fixed, until then just keep posting them here as normal and I'll update them as I go, probably towards the end of today

I haven't forgotten about them, just had been busy this week. And yes, this is a temporary solution until a permanent one is made

Tag Alias: Mega_Mewtwo -> Mega_Mewtwo_Y
Reason: They announced a second mega_mewtwo, there's now a mega_mewtwo_x and mega_mewtwo_y.
The originally announced form is the Y one.

Wasn't able to make it a suggestion in the system because it already being an alias.

Reason: These species are all are members of the bird family corvidae. Right now, raven implicates crow, which is completely wrong. It's hard to tell sometimes whether something is a crow, raven, etc., but in that case one should use the general tag corvid.

Note: Apparently adding an alias to the pending list auto-generates a thread for the forum, but not every forum thread was created using the alias new creation route. Which means we can get forum posts suggesting an alias or implication that was never officially added to the list. But adding them to the officially pending list after the fact either has a trick to it (hopefully) or else it just creates duplicate forum threads about it regardless. It's like a one-way road. Creates a mess if someone tries to do things in the wrong sequence though. Is there a way around that, or is that just a current bump in the system that maybe needs addressed?

Aliasing: rectum -> anal
Reason: the rectum is the internal section of intestine located just inside the ring of muscle known as the anus. Almost all of the images tagged rectum are examples of anal activity/insertion/penetration/etc. It's functionally the same as searching "anal + internal". There's also a slang definition for "rectum" which conflates it with the anus (a separate but nearby part of anatomy), making it a potentially confusing tag as well as redundant.
