Topic: Tag Alias: pixiv -> invalid_tag

Aliasing pixiv → invalid_tag
Link to alias

Reason:

A tag referring to another image pool is unreliable because the tag is often missed , plus it tells no additional information that the source URL can provide. Many images of various, but usually good, quality come from here, so I personally think it would be strange to allow blacklisting. There doesn't seem to be any notable culture (of English relevance) of pixiv to be notable beyond its image hosting, too.

Alternatively, if possible, sources from pixiv could implicate the tag pixiv.

Yeah I see no reason for this tag to exist. Among other reasons, art from Pixiv isn't restricted to Pixiv, it can be posted on a variety of other art sites too. Aliasing to invalid_tag sounds like the way to go to me.

But what if the image includes a computer screen showing a page from Pixiv or something else directly referencing the website like a logo or something? In that sense, shouldn't we use it in a similar way we use the google, furaffinity, or e621 tags?

Or is it too late to clean it up and let people know how to use it correctly at this point?

It'd make sense to tag it the same way we tag e621, etc. But I think it'd get mistagged a lot.

Some boorus tag it for all images that are sourced from pixiv. And sometimes those pics and tags get copied over to here...

With a good wiki that actually specifies what it should only be used for (current one is more of an info summary about the website itself, and not actually about the tag or how the tag should be used). Anyways, with a good wiki, I think this would make sense and could be done. And cleanup wouldn't be too hard.

ETA: though looking through it, I'm not sure I can find any that would qualify. So maybe it's a moot point?

ETA2: So I cleaned out all the ones there were there based on source (so far, it's pretty clear that use isn't allowed) just to see if there would be anything left that actually had to do with the site itself. Much like the e621 tag is used for. And it looks like there actually are a few (as well as one or two I just wasn't sure of). So maybe we could keep it for that, and clean up the wiki to say how it should actually be used, because right now it's just a generalized information blurb about pixiv as a website. I think with a better wiki, more people would get the right idea. Now I could add that info to the wiki, but I wanted to wait and see if we're actually keeping it or not to be decided first. Right now it's just a little easier to see the images it would have an effect on.

That's what I was getting at with "too late," though I suppose in this case, maybe I should have typed "is it expecting too much of people"? I don't think it is, for the record. I like Furrypickle's idea and I'm all for keeping the tag if it's possible for us to keep it maintained.
