Topic: How do I add my username to the artist list?

Posted under General

Another user added me to the artist list, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add my username, which is this one, to my entry on the artist list. Any help with this would really be appreciated.

And if anyone can point me to where I can read the instructions on how to do stuff like this, I'd appreciate that too. I've had a ton of trouble figuring out how to do alot of different things on this site...

I know, but what I want to know is how to add my username (CrockWad, same as my artist name) to the "user" field in the artist list. That hasn't been done, and I have no clue how to do so, nor can I find any information ANYWHERE on this site as to how to do that.

1. Go to the "Artists" tab on top of the site, click it
2. Once there, click "Add" on the top of the page and fill out your artist stuff

I've already looked into that. There is no field to enter a user into the artist profile when you create one...

The fields displayed are 'Name', 'Other Names', 'Groups', 'URLs', and 'Notes'; nothing there about adding the artist's username. Clearly, there are alot of artists unable to find the option to do this, since hardly any in the list have done so.

Over 325 pages of successful artists pages created

You add your primary name into the 'Name' area and your alternate names into 'Other Name' area. The 'URLs' area is where you enter in where you usually post your art, like FA or DA. 'Notes' is just for anything you want to mention.

I cannot believe how much I'm having to clarify this issue to a mod...

Ok, first off the number of pages of artists in the list is NOT what I'm referring to. Also, I know full well what all of the fields you just explained do; they're self explanatory. If you look at the list, the 3rd column of each row is labeled 'user'. Now, to point out what I meant, VERY FEW OF THE ARTISTS IN THIS LIST HAVE ANY DATA IN THIS FIELD! Now then, the issue is that I want to enter the data for my username into that field, but cannot find any way to do so. I want to do so, because the artists that have managed to do so allow people to go directly to their profile page via a link created in that field. Furthermore, when you go to settings after clicking on My Account, there is a text-entry field labeled 'My Prices' that, according to the description of that field "is a field for artists that have a tag on the site attached to their name, if you don't , it won't show up in your profile." Now, it seems to me, that when the day comes that I want to make use of that field, the only way to enable it to be seen in my profile page, is to have my username appear in the 'user' field in the artists list. If that's not how it works, please explain how it does. I've already tried to enter something in the prices field to test it, and it does not appear in my profile. Even if it these things are unrelated, I still want to have a link to my profile page in that field, and cannot find a way to do it.

I'd also like to ask again, is there ANYWHERE on this site where instructions are documented for how to do things like this? Reading something and figuring it out on my own would be much simpler than having to come to this thread repeatedly.

If you don't have the prices posted on your FA, it won't link it here. I've checked, and you don't.

@CrockWad: You need to ask an admin to link your account to your artist profile. Regular users can't do that.

Thank you. If you don't mind my asking, how did you find out that's how it's done? I had already read through the help page that was linked, and didn't see it mentioned anywhere. The biggest thing bugging me is the difficulty in finding actual documented help pages here.

Click https://e621.net/artist/update/16344, there should be a field called "UserID:" visible to you (if not then it is admin only (which would be pretty useless)), paste the number from the profile page of the person into the field and save.

That page seems outdated, I'll bring it up with the rest.

I suppose that field is admin only; it's not appearing for me, unfortuntely.

That was for Husky, but to answer your previous question: if it is possible but you can't do it no matter what then you don't have the required privileges.

Unless it was changed since my departure, that field is contrib and up.

To answer your other question: no, that functionality isn't documented anywhere on the site. I'll look into adding something explaining it.

There's a lot of undocumented stuff and some others that need an update...

Hey there. Sorry for popping into this discussion so randomly.
I'm still pretty new here and I'd like to have my name added to the artists list as well, since I'm obviously not able to do that by myself. Would be really nice if that could be done by one of you. Thanks.

Sure, what's your artist tag? Your only upload doesn't have one.

That would be same as my nickname then. Spilight.

I just edited CrockWads nicknames by mistake trying to add myself to artist lists. My profile URL linked his profile for whatever reason when I put my profile in the URL section. It also put Maverick Mustang as his artist name.

Fixed it, I will go off and make you an artist name. May you provide a source to your artist account(s)?

hate to be a bother, but I really want to start uploading my artwork here and had already published one, however I noticed that I couldn't tag myself as an artist/author. I then learned that my name has to be added to the artist list by an admin, so I thought I'd try my luck here. (in case an admin does see this, my name would be itsdante).

Go to topic #23553, the very first post in the thread will tell you how to make your tag as an artist tag.

Also, looks like somebody already did it for you. Check it out!

Yeah, looks like somebody already created the artist tag for you.

Next time, in order to create a new artist tag, add in the prefix artist: before the tag (i.e. artist:itsdante) when first uploading.
If you have accidentally created the tag without adding in the artist:, it will (by default) become a general purpose tag.
In that case, you will need to click the "?" to the left of the tag. Click on "Edit Tag" (not "Edit") on the top navigation bar, change the category from "General" to "Artist", and then press "Submit".

The same goes for creating new character, species, and copyright tags, by adding in the character:, species:, and copyright: prefix before the tag respectively.

Wait, I thought it doesn't work now due to constant abuse...

I'm not really sure about creating new artist tags using the artist: prefix specifically, but I can create new character tags using the character: prefix.
In terms of abuse cases, I think those only apply for existing tags which have a high number of posts (as opposed to new ones).

It works at high enough privilege levels, and for non-privileged users it works as long as the tag doesn't already exist. Once it's already used, the prefix won't work for normal users and you'll need to edit the type through the wiki.

Also, once there's enough posts using a tag (100?) normal users can't change its type through the wiki either.

Okay, understandable.
