regularizing a set of three tags

Most accurate tag would be urophagia.

Accurate yes. But would it be useful? Most people won't know it by that name, won't recognise what it means when they see it in the tag list, and would struggle to remember it when they need to tag it somewhere. drinking_urine is almost as accurate and has the advantage of being a lot clearer to the average user. /two cents

That's what aliases are for.
They can tag any of them, and it would end up with the correct tag.

That doesn't really help unless you already know the defunct tag. If you have to go looking for the tag in the tag listing by searching *urine*, it won't show up.

In any case, coprophagia is aliased to eating_shit. It would be better to stay consistent.

That only addresses 'remembering the right tag' issue (and only if we put in enough aliases).

There's still the question of which tag will end up displayed in the tag list next to the image. Is urophagia too obscure to be a useful tag name? Even if we put in the aliases so that drinking_urine etc gets changed to urophagia, most people who didn't tag it urophagia to begin with would have a hard time understanding where their tag went. Urophagia is not a widely known word. Whereas most people who knew to tag something urophagia would probably be able to figure out if it got changed to drinking_urine.

I know it's accurate, but is it just going to cause unnecessary confusion on a functional level if 'urophagia' becomes the final version of the tag?

Sesquidipalian grandiloquence† is fine when it's used in a context where it's translatable, but it's better to go with easy to understand words when possible. KISS. Simple doesn't mean stupid. Sometimes, it's the reverse. But I do understand the appeal of using the more technical term even when it should be avoided.

We have plenty of technical terms on the site. The species tags are technical, so are the *grade tags. That being said, It'd be more consistent with the normal tags to use a less technical term.

Vorarephilia is aliased to vore, and we use Bestiality instead of zoophilia. I'm aware that this is because we want to tag the actions, not the fetishes, but it would just make more sense to use the more familiar tag.
