Topic: Moral Dilemma on anthro coexistence

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

Alright so I'm working on some character designs for a high school comic that takes place in Texas, and I was thinking of drawing some bovine characters, but I'm not sure about doing it.

I mean, considering it's Texas having bull and cow characters makes sense, but, since it's texas, what about the steak and beef? A Texas without stake is like a fish without gills.

I was thinking of just having them all be carnivores and omnivores but I'm not sure, what should I do?

What sort of comic are we talking about here? Are you talking about something short or something long-term? Are you talking about something who's main appeal is supposed to be as porn, or something which is story-driven?

Because if you're talking about something short and porn-driven, you can probably just ignore the issue by not showing the characters eating or avoiding showing the food in one way or another.

If you're talking about something longterm and story-driven, then you should want to think about and answer these questions for yourself. You can't write something interesting while also being unwilling to answer questions about your characters and setting.

Some humans eat monkeys, but it's not cannibalism. Despite appearances, anthro cattle are no more feral cattle than Homo sapiens is macaques, baboons, or lemurs. There are quite a few anatomical, behavioral, and physiological differences between human and their closest non-sapient relatives. We're not the same species, so despite a squik factor amongst many people, there is no cannibalism.

Of course, if you're taking the tack of no ferals because they all eventually became anthros, then obviously, you're going to have some hoops to jump through and Clawdragons' is probably simplest.

Either way, the real trick is in how the characters handle it. Look at a movie or TV show in which characters are eating. They don't spend time describing how burgers are made or how to make milk. They just eat or drink (or not) and be on their merry way. Since that's how we'd act in real life anyway, it's more natural. Anthro cattle who treat eating hamburgers, whatever their origin, as no big deal will be more effective than spending time explaining how carnivory works in your world.

Well, I was just thinking of a mix of both, just a sort of on and off again comic to read. The first few pages are long, but all and all it's nothing too story-driven.

Yeah, I think I might just go the feral cattle route instead, it's way easier anyway, and I could just make the bulls its own sort of species with their being female bulls, kind of like with minotaurs, so would that work?

There are a few approaches you could try.

Ignore it. Don't address it at all.

Comedy. Play it off for laughs like those "what do they eat in the Pokémon world" comics.

Political. Promote plant-based meat alternatives or lab cultured meat in a cafeteria scene.

Mindfuck. Have humans treat bovine anthros as cattle or subhumans. There are some Japanese doujins that can help you with this. You could also have bovine anthros eating human steaks.

Political mindfuck. Texas high school is the center of "race riots" after becoming the first in the state to integrate bovine anthros into the student body. Meanwhile, bovine anthros are rounded up by "racists", lynched, barbecued, and eaten.

Well, the comic is is basically just a parody of Not Another teen movie or clone high, and is generally just lighthearted with some serious moments so I think I'll stick to the second one.

Anyway, this is a fun topic to mess with, the way I decided to play this off is:
1. There are anthros and ferals, where the anthros are evolved versions of the ferals(which can be reasonable as humans evolved from rapes).
2. It is acceptable to eat the ferals, however herbivore animals(and vegan humans) advocate for vegan stuff. Omnivores and carnivores shrug it off or go anti-vegan.
3. Some herbivore animals opt for omnivore diets since they are evolved from their feral counterparts, but most herbivores treat this as a religious like thing and don't like those who deviate from their feral counterparts.

Stuff like that, create a fantasy political environment. It is fun and interesting when it is fictional, just don't make the major mistake if mixing real politics and pushing an real agenda, this will divide your fan base.

Humans are primates but people eat monkey meat all of the time. It's not as much of a conundrum as people seem to think it is.

Can you recommend any?
I've seen this in Beastars, but that's not a doujin.

edit:
Never mind, you listed two of them at the end of your post.

The Texans could eat illegal immigrants.
Just a modest proposal.

There are no humans in the story, it's all anthro's. I'm not sure where y'all got the idea that there would be humans, but there aren't any.

I guess I could just have the carnivores and omnivores be the sentient species, while all of the herbivores are feral so that way I can ignore this issue entirely.

I'm all for cannibalism but what kind of half-baked stone of a post is this? A modest proposal was on over population and poverty or some shit like that so - (to the knowing of the satirical piece) - your posts says there are too many illegal immigrants in Texas. OP never even talked about immigrants so I'm not sure what hat you pulled this out of, it looks like you are trying to either be political or troll, or if nothing else what you said is irrelevant and unnecessary.

There should be more related to that theme. That's all I could find on short notice. Most are not guro and the "cows" usually look 99% human.

Bessatsu Comic Unreal Ningen Bokujou
[さるがそ] 女の子が化物に捕食されちゃう本
Gyuuniku Shoujo
[Taropun] Milky Party!
Ushionna no Chichi Massage
Doki Doki! Ushikko Bokujou Monogatari
[Amagi Michihiko] A Farmer's Eden
[Fan no Hitori] Wild Beastly West
Gyuunyuu no Oishii Tsukuri kata

I can't find any cows eating humans. There is a ripe market opportunity for y'all.

Alright, I'm not sure where y'all are getting these dark ideas, but this comic is just a basically a comedy like Not Another Teen Movie or Clone High.

For those who don't know about either:

It's nothing really serious, it's more like a Sunday comic I'll update from time to time. Granet, the beginning chapter of the comic is a little long but after that, it'll just be situational-based stuff.

So, I think I'll go with Clawdragons' suggestion and have the concept of meat be an afterthought in the series.
