Sorry, I was too vague. I meant why did he care about the user-ranking of people tagging/uploading since the merit of art and the correctness of tags does not depend on the person doing it.

Ah. Well, that might cut down on people trying to overrule the admins' tags, or flagging admins' posts inappropriately... hard to say. I would actually expect the problem people in those regards wouldn't even bother to look at who did something, much less observe their account type.

This was basically the idea behind it. Bad taggers will probably think "Shit, this guy's an admin, better not fuck with their tagging" when seeing an admin's tag edit, instead of "This faggot can't tag for shit" and removing a ton of valid tags/adding invalid tags.

the hardblush image for a safe to upload image on the avoid_posting has been deleted, so it should be replaced with something else.

Requested feature: Keyboard shortcuts for going to the previous/next image in a pool.

Why it would be useful: For reading comics and other pooled content without using the mouse!

Might be nice to use the standard j/k keys for forward/back? Keep the shortcuts like those people know (e.g. Gmail/Google Reader)

Requested feature: Make parent/child mode when viewing list of posts. Once user would be in this mode posts can be parented by drag and drop thumbnail of pic that becomes child to thumbnail of post that becomes parent.

Why it would be useful: Drag and drop is more comfortable than clicking parent post, copying its number, clicking child post, clicking edit button, entering parent number in textbox, clicking once again to confirm edit.

Updated by anonymous

There is a parent:#### metatag that can be used when editing tags to parent an image. Definitely works in edit mode from the index page. Maybe not quite as comfortable as drag-and-drop, but at least on some browsers you only have to hover over the one image to see its post number in the post url.

Believe me, I'm wanting to see the parent/child and pool systems overhauled almost entirely. They're way too hard to use and understand right now.

It'll be a bit, but it's definitely something I'll be pushing to happen.

Is there any way to get a "recently tagged" thing that can keep track of images most recently tagged with certain tags?

Kimpumomo said:

This sounds a good idea, it'd really help to find people misunderstanding the use of some tags.

I'm not sure if this has been suggested yet. But we should have a disclaimer thing on our front page to confirm if the user is above 18 before logging in.

Also, maybe we could have a system where you can't view explicit images unless logged in. Because what's the point of banning someone for being underage if they can view explicit stuff without an account anyway?

But then most images on e621 would disappear from Google...

Already discussed and we decided against it.

Requested feature: Possibility for post to have multiple parents.

Why it would be useful: I've just set post #199253 children, so it looks better than notes that were attached to it. Problem is that I had to reparent (Changing roles in relationships, not removing them. I hope I didn't mess any rule about parenting.) few posts, and I have no idea what would I do if there was similar wallpaper with 5 black and white version of those images. Multiple parenting would solve this problem.

Updated by anonymous

Alongside the above, having a list of general sources (art galleries, furaffinity, etc.) of artists that can be accesed on the upload page. Perhaps a link next to the source field? I know that sources can be found on an artist's wiki entry, but for uploading convience and a higher turnout of posts with sources, this might be more effective.

Requested feature: When flagging repost for deletion there would be useful option to make parent tags sum of sets of tags, that parent, and children have.

Why it would be useful: In most cases loss of tags from deleted picture that are absent on picture that stays is a bad thing. Of course it can be done by opening both pictures, and copy pasting tags, but checking one option at flag for deletion screen would be quicker. And if it would be somehow intelligent (Like {artist1} + {unknown_artist} = {artist1} not {artist1, unknown_artist}) it would be just great.

Requested feature: any image with the tag absurd resolution, should be automatically reduced in size, or have the option to turn this feature on.

Why it would be useful: because only seeing the upper left corner of an image is annoying.

That's not necessary. In your settings, check the option that says "Show Image Samples". It's on the 8th section (almost at the end of the page)

Updated by anonymous

You can configure your settings three ways:

1) Show reduced-resolution images.
2) Show full-size images but shrunk visually.
3) Show images unaltered.

Everybody's a winner!

Updated by anonymous

How about a higher flag limit? Only being able to flag two images a day is just absurd. People who abuse flagging are usually swiftly banned, so I don't see the reason for such a tiny limit.

Updated by anonymous

Feature Requested: Preset FFD reasons
Why?: It would potentially help limit or outright remove FFD abuse
How?: When I user clicks 'Flag for Deletion' now, they're given an open field to input the reason for the FFD request. Below that are valid reasons to FFD, and invalid reasons to FFD; at the moment, 'not furry' and 'irrelevant to site' are not displayed as irrelevant FFD reasons, despite being an invalid FFD reason on the rules page. At the very least, these reasons should be added to the notice at the bottom of the FFD page.

How I propose the FFD page work is this:

- User clicks on the Flag for Deletion link.
- User is presented with a list of pre-set FFD reasons.
- User checks the most appropriate reason
- User clicks Okay and the FFD is processed for admins to handle. A dialog confirming your choice and desire to FFD is also probably a good idea.

Reasons available for choice are: Artist is DNP, Duplicate Image, Updated Image, Inferior Image.

Duplicate Image, Updated Image and Inferior Image all then provide an open field for the user to input the image number of the existing image that's inferior/superior/already existing. The FFD reason cannot be processed without a valid image ID number.

As fun as it is to read the stupid FFD reasons people get and to watch them get subsequently smacked (sometimes; people get knocked on the head for FFD abuse far less than I'd like to see, but I'm not administration so that's a moot point), I realize it also puts a large work load on the admins. A system like this whittles every FFD down to the basics of what's allowed, without allowing reasons like 'irrelevant', 'not furry', 'disgusting', 'bad', 'crappy' and all the other subjective FFD reasons.

As it stands now however, users are almost encouraged to flag images for the above wrong reasons due to wording in the rules. One of the approved FFD reasons is "Violates the site's posting rules", which includes the following text:

Make an effort to post quality, finished, non-repost images. Avoid crap-quality things like tiny images, grainy images, motivational poster memes, screenshots, image macros, images with absurdly huge and extremely annoying watermarks, etc. Off-topic images and any potential fallout from posting them are subject to the whims of the moderators. In other words, don't post non-furry art if you aren't okay with it being deleted.

However, right under the 'violates the site's posting rules' line, it says this:

Do not flag images for deletion for subjective reasons! "Not furry," "bad art," and "irrelevant" are all subjective reasons!

If you consider the image in question to be sick, disgusting, perverse, "Just wrong" or anything similar, do not flag it for deletion. This is an invalid reason, and flagging a post with a similar sort of reason will result in disciplinary action. You have been warned.

It sends mixed messages, and at the very least I propose that the 'violates the site's posting rules' be stricken from that list to prevent any further misunderstanding, since the decision of an image getting approved and staying on the site or getting deleted due to being non-furry, irrelevant, or poor quality is the decision of the admin that gets to the image first, not the users of this site.

Wording of the rules aside, I think the system I've laid out (with some tweaks and polish, of course) would curb FFD abuse significantly. Thoughts?

Updated by anonymous

There are plenty of images that are successfully deleted when the FFD reason is "irrelevant to site", though. It's as much up to moderator whim as the initial approval is.

In no way will this actually reduce the density of flags: It will just collapse them all into a smaller number of phrases. The people posting stupid and wrong FFDs are not going to be deterred, and the smart people already looked at the rules to see whether or not they should flag it.

Foobaria said:

They're not deleted because of the FFD, they're deleted because the right admin got to it first. People not getting slapped for flagging things as irrelevant, and then deleting the image, just encourages them to continue doing so.

You can't submit a stupid FFD if the only options you're given to choose from are the right ones. Leaving it open allows far more freedom of stupidity.

Give me a reason why a system like this is harmful to the site. The people who frequently FFD for valid reasons will continue on just as they have for years, and it'll clear up a back log of work for the administration. How is that a bad idea?

Updated by anonymous

Kimpumomo said:

I'm just going to bump this so that it doesn't get lost :3

Updated by anonymous

It's not harmful to the site, but it's work for no gain, because the people putting shitty/stupid FFD reasons now will just pick whatever sounds closest (or even pick at random without even reading them). You cannot convince me there is a large pool of people who would say "Oh, okay, the reason I want this image deleted is not in this list, so that must mean it's not a valid reason, and not that they simply forgot to include it in the list.".

If you were to include bad reasons in the list, and if they're selected, come up with an error page that says "You're a moron.", but I still posit that most would either go back and pick something else instead, or have chosen at random already.

Updated by anonymous

We've already denied preset FFD options in the past.

Updated by anonymous

When you upload something to e621, and the tags contain an artist tag that's been implicated to "avoid_posting", then e621 should display a warning message. Something along the lines of: "This artist is on the DNP list, do you really want to upload the image?"

- Why not just refuse to upload the image?
Because some artists have decreed that only *some* of their art is DNP.

- Won't some people just ignore the warning?
There's no way to stop people from uploading DNP art on purpose.

- This won't work if people don't include any artist tags.
Again, there's no way to prevent people from doing that.

Maybe there could be a separate bookmark feature (maybe each user should have few possible bookmark groups with possibility of naming them*), because favoriting is considered as a strong like since it gives +1 to votes (at least for priv+ members)

Also very high fav to upvote ratio is often the result of favorites transfer from deleted post.

*for example I would really like to have bookmark for cute, sweet, fluffy things, cause cute tag is very ,very ,very misused

Updated by anonymous

I don't like the idea of auto-upvoting images when favoriting them, but the bookmarks idea sounds really good. I'm sure plenty of people would make a great use out of it if it was added as a feature.

EDIT: Also, bookmarks should be searchable. Say I also want to see cute, fluffy things, I'd be able to view Gilda's cute bookmark by searching something along the lines of bookmark:Gilda_The_Gryphon:cute and see everything bookmarked as cute.

Requested feature: Date on newsbar.

Why it would be useful: Okay, maybe site is working so bad lately that "Oops, looks like we were down for a little while last night!" still make sense, but a date to know how old is info would be nice.

E.g. Using the <3 tag and its aliases, when doing a search in the Tag section:

I was sure it works, but it looks like on blacklists aliases on negative tags don't work. fim is transformed to friendship_is_magic, but -fim is not transformed to -friendship_is_magic.

That is due to the fact that negative tags work completely different.
Or, that the server sees -fim and can't find an alias for "-fim" and won't drop the - when searching for aliases.

I think it has more to do with the way the blacklist works, because in the post index, the server will recognize -mlp as aliased to -my_little_pony

Yeah, that would be really helpful. I've done that plenty of times myself.

The warning for unused tags would be good too, I've seen people make a misspelling in an alias request before.

Adding to this:

A notification bar like that of deviantArt, Facebook, FA, which has:

  • Unread PMs

New comments on user uploaded posts
Responses to blips/comments/forum posts created by the user

    • An option to receive notifications on this post (for forum threads like this and this that could end a bit too spammy in the notifications)

Let's make an achievement system for site.
With achievements like "10 000 tag edits", "1000 uploads", or "worse than barbados".

Do you know what happens when you add achievements? People spam the fuck out of things to earn the achievements. Let's not.

Oh no, people would edit tags and upload more! The site would be in shambles D:

Having said that, I'm not too keen on achievements either, just a little more public recognition for when users do well. I doubt a whole lot of users look at the records page.

Updated by anonymous

I'm not sure if I like the idea of achievements, but something that would make users feel significant hopefully make people put more effort into tagging would be useful. Sure admins give out records, but 90% of them are either negative or neutral. It's probably also hard to stand out from other users.

If a user feels accepted by a community, they'll be much more obliged to put more effort into their activities on the site.

This might be something that is here and I don't know about, but is there any way to search based on resolution? I think the original danbo/gelbo code has searches for exact resolution but not a range of resolutions (I.E. X greater than 1000), which makes it sort of useless.

There is the low/high/absurd res tags but those aren't always used. I think it could be hardcoded to tag images with those tags based on their resolution since that's one of the very few things that could be tagged automagically, but that's programming wizardry. I don't think it'd be that hard though.

You can do this with the mpixel metatag. You can also use height and width for exact sizes. There's an explanation on the cheatsheet of how to use them, along with some others you'll probably find useful.

Please don't misunderstand this post I'm making as anything to do with MLP, that is just used as an example.

What happens now: I blacklist MLP. I search for horse. Instead of seeing my setting of 30 posts per page, I get some pages that have 3, 4 or 5 posts. And some pages are completely blank all together. I click next page and I have to click through 5, sometimes 10, sometimes 15 pages of emptiness and nothing just to finally get to a page that actually has some posts in it, but it's only 2 posts. And then I go back to clicking the next page button, but I again have to go through lots of emptiness to see something else.. but then it's 3 more posts. This is very annoying.

What I would like to see instead: When I blacklist something, then search again, the results should display 30 results per page (like I have set in settings) and the blacklisted posts should not even be counted in to the page count, nor the posts-per-page setting. They should just... go away, and only what I have not-blacklisted should show up. But this is not what happens.

Anyway, I would like this to happen on the site. I dare say I do not think I am alone in requesting this, either.

Horse is 489 pages. Horse -mlp is 91 pages. That's roughly 20%. You may have more blacklisted than just mlp.

Also, no way to do what you want with client-side blacklists, and server-side blacklists are a massive and unnecessary drain on server resources.

Do you did it on purpose? Or it was an actual calculation?

Maybe information given to thumbail could contain, besides score, info on who uploads it, and rating, also information of how voted someone who is doing the request.
I'm not asking for making all meta-tags work, but to give one way of manually constructing blacklist that
a) can be done with one click, instead of going to blacklist page, inserting id:xxx etc.
b) would not consume blacklist length with each new picture added.

Still I don't exactly know what is possible, and how difficult would it be to do this but IMO this would make blacklisting more effective. And more effective blacklist = less whining from users.

Don' get me wrong, I, too, would like to be able to blacklist images I vote down. I'm just saying that because it isn't one of the normal tags attached to an image it will probably need slightly different coding. Not to mention that Aurali and Tony311 have many other site related projects under construction.

Requested feature: blacklist exclusive tags. For example, filtering out images which have only specific 'species:' tags and none others. For a more specific example: filtering out images that have the 'male' tag but none of the other gender-related tags.

Why it would be useful: filtering the content that would be uninteresting, not particularly disgusting to a user

Of course, I know that this is probably technically overcomplicated (and/or computationally heavy) to implement, so throwing it out as suggestion / idea to ponder, in case there are better relevant ideas.

Just put in something like "male -female -cuntboy and so on"

Updated by anonymous

I'm not sure of I understand this right but you neither want to see males solo or in a group of themselves and no pictures with only one species of something?

For the gender part, fill your blacklist with "male -female" "male -herm" and so on, and maybe "male solo", all on separate lines.
Species would work pretty much the same, except clunkier.

And if you just don't want to see furries being all alone, the tag "solo" would be your friend.

It needs to be all on one line. "male -female" and "male -herm" on two lines blocks all images with males that do not have both a female and a herm. "male -female -herm" blocks all images with males that do not have either a female or a herm, which is the desired behavior here.

This reduces neatly to "male -female -intersex" (all on one line), if any other gender is acceptable. If certain intersex genders don't count (e.g. you don't want to see males and dickgirls exclusively in a picture), you have to enumerate all the acceptable types of intersexed characters (dickgirl, cuntboy, herm). To continue the example given (males and any other gender except dickgirls), you'd put "male -female -herm -cuntboy" as one line in your blacklist.

For species...that's gonna get ugly, but you can do it. You need "[species you only want to see if it's with other species] -[all other species, although you can save a lot of room by using things like equine, canine, and so on as long as the species you don't want to see isn't part of those categories]", and you'll need that line for each species you want to block.

Requesting a "last active" date on user profiles

It would really help to determine if action is needed against a user if we can see when and what the last thing they did was. At the moment I have to look through all the comments, posts, tag edits, etc to find if they are on daily or haven't logged in in a year

Requested feature: Tags for Pools

Why it would be useful: So I can browse the Pools and have my blacklist filter out the pools that don't appeal to me. It's difficult to tell from the name of a pool what it's content might contain most of the time, so I end up clicking a pool just to find that most or all of the pictures in that pool are blacklisted for me. If pools themselves had tags and could be filtered by the blacklist the way the images are, that'd be great.

Sorry if this has been suggested before.

You can use the metatag inpool:true -things_you_don't_like to search for pools, containing things you like.
