Topic: (OLD) The Feature Request Thread

Posted under Site Bug Reports & Feature Requests

This topic has been locked.

Requested feature
If someone uploads a pic that is 500 pixels wide:
- if the source contains a Tumblr link, warn the uploader that the pic is probably only a preview version, and that there might be a bigger version at the source
- if there's no source, warn the uploader that the pic is probably a Tumblr preview image, and that there might be a bigger version there

If someone uploads a pic that is 920 pixels wide:
- if the source contains an Inkbunny link, warn the uploader that the pic is probably only a preview version, and that there might be a bigger version at the source
- if there's no source, warn the uploader that the pic is probably an Inkbunny preview image, and that there might be a bigger version there
- maybe: link to eSix Extend (it has a "find pics on Inkbunny" feature)

These warnings should be enabled by default, with an option to turn them off.

Why it would be useful
People wouldn't get their uploads replaced by bigger versions.

Requested feature:
"sourcecount" metatag

There's already a "hassource" metatag, but it doesn't let you specifiy the number of sources (= number of lines in the "Source" field).

Why it would be useful:
I want to search for all posts with only a direct Furaffinity link in the Source field, like post #464139
And then find the source on Furaffinity with eSix Extend

Searching for "source:facdn" also finds me posts with multiple sources, like post #464808

I want to be able to search for:
source:facdn sourcecount:1

Searching tag history by individual tag would be helpful. Being able to see each addition and removal of a tag in the history would help repair accidental aliases or implications. Additionally it could help combat mass tag removal vandalism which otherwise might go unnoticed.

feature

hyperlinks on the DNP list to pictures of that artist on home site or there rightful places, so uploaders will know the artstyle and not accedentally upload DNP'ed art thus earning a nuetral or negative mark in addition when uploading the DNP list will come up so the uploader can cancel the upload if the artist is not listed at the source and turns out to be on the DNP list this way if DNP'ed art is uploaded it can be truly worthy of disiplinary actions from admins

Years are used for when the art is drawn, and just because something was uploaded in 2014 doesn't mean it was drawn in 2014. It'd add a lot of correct missing years, but it'd add just as many incorrect years.

Tagging prefix for genders

We have the tagging prefixes general, artist, character, copyright and species:
https://e621.net/help/cheatsheet#Tagging_Prefixes

I suggest adding the "gender:" tagging prefix.

Why it would be useful:
Because gender is important to many users.

So basically, a new tag type?

Feature: High-DPI display support

Basically, if the user is using a display that renders multiple "web pixels" per pixel on the screen, such as a tablet or one of Apple's Retina-display notebooks, we want higher-resolution assets delivered to the user when available, and change the way we resize images to accommodate this display.

I'd appreciate it if you could implement this!

Disable image samples in your user settings

Updated by anonymous

Requested feature: Reduced-size preview images for GIF's

If you have "Show image samples" enabled in your account settings, e621 reduces the size of the preview image if the full image is wider or taller than 800 pixels.
However, e621 does not do this for GIF's.

That's probably because GIF's only have a maximum of 256 colors, so reduced-size versions wouldn't look very good (anti-aliasing is impossible with such a small palette).

For non-animated GIF's:
Convert the GIF to a JPG and downscale it.
e621 already does this to create previews for PNG's.

For animated GIF's:
Use APNG to create a reduced-size preview.
Not the same file type as the original, but that doesn't matter, because the preview images for non-animated PNG's also use a different file type (JPG).

Why it would be useful:
It would reduce loading times.

What I meant was this:

In cases where we would deliver a thumbnail image (maximum 150x150) to the client, and the client's devicePixelRatio is greater than 1, we instead deliver a higher-resolution asset. For example, web browsers on Apple's retina displays have a devicePixelRatio of 2. This means that In a given dimension, a 1x1 "markup" pixel is rendered using a 2x2 block in the display. In this case, we can deliver a 300x300 image to the user and set it's width and height properties to 150x150.

Without this, the images appear to be stretched.

Here's what I mean:

Support.
The prefixes make tagging a lot faster (it's easy to see what's missing), so it'd be good to have more of them. ...adding too many might make the tag list appear too cluttered, but I think there's room for at least one more. Gender (or possibly orientation) would be a good one.

If we did orientation, we would re-ignite the whole transgender/mindset specific attributes argument... It's dead and done, definitely don't think that'd be a good idea. Gender is fine, but not orientation.

Requested feature: A system to alert users when someone replies to their comment.

Why it would be useful: It would just be really nice to see when someone replies to my comment and it would allow for a quicker and way more effective way to engage conversation. Plus it would totally promote the site with a more social element.

Suggested feature: Strip the first and last underscores in tags

I agree that it'd be nice, but I'm not sure how this would be accomplished with the way commenting currently works. The site itself doesn't record who is replying to what, and users often reply to multiple other users within a single comment. I think we'd have to introduce threaded comments first in order to make this a (reliable) reality.

I'll second that. It was nice when the "character:" prefix was added, and gender is one of the most important kind of tags people search. Might want to have the prefix as "sex:" though because sex refers to the biological differences while gender is more of a cultural thing.

In addition to Xch3l's post above, all possible search options are documented here: https://e621.net/help/cheatsheet

You can access this list again at any time by clicking the "Search Help" link above the search box.

Personally, I find order:favcount to be more useful than order:score, but either option should get you the good stuff.

Requested feature: Able to delete other peoples comments on your uploads.

Why it would be useful: It makes it so your uploads aren't drama hot spots, and so rude and disrespectful comments can be deleted on the pictures you upload.

Example. Someone went into one of my posts of a picture of my fursona, then commented, trying to school me on an accidental tag I forgot to remove after a copy/paste, and said some offensive things about my character.

I take offense to that. The admin and mod teams are committed to this site, and more so than most of its userbase. To imply we don't care is a slap in the face of everyone who has been working hard under Char's leadership, and mine.

It would appear, to me, that because we don't immediately agree to your request to censoring honest comments that you don't agree with, you would rather take away from the site. It is unfortunate, as you aren't even the artist, that you would rather harm an artist's effort to demonstrate his or her skill to a greater audience just so you can control what other people say.

This probably is never going to be possible on e621. The person that uploads a post may not necessarily be the artist or character owner, and so it wouldn't make sense to allow only the uploader to delete comments.

As Peekaboo stated, if people are truly being rude to you, then you're welcome to report them. The admins are very good about staying on top of all reports submitted, as can be seen here: https://e621.net/ticket.

It's a shame that you felt the only solution was to have your artwork deleted instead of seeking assistance from an admin or reporting users. I hope we've been able to demonstrate here that such an assumption is definitely incorrect, you just have to give us a chance.

Actually, I uploaded those pictures, not the artist. I'm good friends with the artist. You're also wrong, because I don't care if you agree or disagree. It's my own opinion. I've never had good history with mods on sites, due to the fact that they were almost never existent, and when they were, they never did their job. So far, I'm on the line still about this site. I'm not here to try making trouble with any mods or anything, and I apologize for offending you, but just with my past observations of many sites, mods/admins always were useless. Like I said, I'm still on the line with this site, so please don't think that I'm saying your useless. Obviously in my above comment, I made a wrong judgment over this site, because yes, so far you have been FAR better than past sites I've been on, no matter the topic. However, I still stand my case about deleting unneeded comments.

Well, if anything, they could do it the same as how you delete art. Basically you do the whole FA link thing, or personal site link, etc, then message them over that to prove you're the character owner or artist. I'm sure there's also other ways to go about with it, but at the moment, I have no ideas, and I'm pretty sure even if I thought of something, it'd either prove to be too difficult to implement, or will have ways of getting around it.

I hate to sound greedy with these requests, but since we now that nifty "tag history"-search...

Requested feature: Ability to search for tag changes. Currently, searching for -<tag> or +<tag> doesn't find anything, and without any modifiers it just shows every single instance. Both changed and unchanged ones.
Why it would be useful: Let's say that someone has, for instance, been consistently mistagging a certain tag. Being able to combo-search for <user> & +<tag> would be very handy for the cleanup.

From news:

In addition, you can now change what title post pages have (the text in your browser's tabs) in your settings if you have an account. If you liked the old "all tags" instead of the new "artist tag only" style, you can change it back!

Requested feature: More titles!
artist-id post-id tags ("atimon #494209: nala simba kiara kion ...")
artist-id post-id ("atimon #494209")
post-id artist-id tags ("#494209 atimon: nala simba kiara kion ...")
post-id artist-id ("#494209 atimon")

Why it would be useful: Different people like different titles.

I prefer most meaningful part of the title to come first, in case of e621 it's the artist's tag. And in case of the same titles, there needs to be something to tell pages apart, post id seems appropriate for this. The rest of the tags can provide more info when switching between tabs. This is why I'de prefer artist-id post-id tags or artist-id post-id. "Post" text is redundant.

Choosing most meaningful tags for the title may be useful (chars, species)...

Personally, I don't understand this one.

a) for new users, the login/signup option appears when they may actually have developed an interest in doing so -- that is, as they are browsing through posts. This is exactly the right time to show it.

b) for old users, why would they not simply bookmark https://e621.net/user/login rather than https://e621.net/ ?
If you have to login much, typing 'e6' into your url bar should already show /user/login as one of the first results.
(personally I do not bother with this because I basically never have to re-login, and never browse from different computers.)
