Project:Remove [pool name] tag from images in pools

Goal 1

Go through all of the pools, remove the name of the pool from the individual images.

Goal 2

Comics* tagged as [comic_name] that aren't already in a pool, should be added to a pool and have the [comic_name] tag removed.

Goal 3 (optional)
  • Clean up ask blog tags that should otherwise belong in a pool.
    • Remove ask[fillytwilightsfeet]-type tags, preferring pools where applicable.
    • ask[ocname] tags should be changed to character:[ocname] and the ask[ocname] tag removed.
    • Since the artist is often not known, unknown_artist should be added where applicable.

*"comic" defined as: any actual comic or series of images that would otherwise belong in pool. A series of "ask blogs" from tumblr would fall under this definition in most cases.

Example:

Let's say there is a pool of 30 images (a comic) named "A Day in the Life". All 30 of these images are also tagged "a_day_in_the_life". The tag "a_day_in_the_life" should be removed.

Reasoning:

Goal 1:

They shouldn't be tagged by the comic name because...well that's what pools are for; giving it a tag that's the same name as the pool is redundant. AFAIK this is already established as being the case.

Goal 2:

Some pools have the same or similar name as actual tags and can get confused, miscategorized, or broken up by accident (during tag cleanup). Recently I found a comic named "Incestuous" that was also tagged "incestuous" and in a pool called "Incestuous". Unfortunately only some were actually tagged "incest" (and not the correct ones either).

Goal 3 (optional):

Ask blogs don't have any consistent tagging outside of just tagging it as tumblr. While I would prefer to not have to deal with these (their format doesn't work well with tagging, many are mistagged/badly tagged/not tagged at all, and there's so damn many of them)...they are nonetheless popular right now and not going away any time soon.

I decided to include this because:

  • They are inherently related to pools.
  • This issue will undoubtedly come up during the project and it's better to get it defined at the onset rather than later.

I leave it as optional because:

  • This could probably be a whole project by itself.
  • The tags still need to be defined (ask_blog vs. comic), invalidated (ask) or aliased (askblog -> ask_blog); all require admin intervention.
  • I get the impression that most of the users here don't really care about tumblr/ask blogs (otherwise they wouldn't be so badly tagged).

Updated

No.

The pool system is clunky as hell and many people don't even know we have that extra page for them, the tag ensures stuff can be found, but not necessarily in order, which the pool takes care of.

So the comic name tags have a very good reason to exist until we rework the pool system.

As to askX stuff, I'd say the same for them, they should be in a pool if they belong together, but they still should have a tag on them identifying them as such.

But feel free to tag the character names.

And I better not have find out that you already started removing tags before you checked if it's a good idea or not.

I modified more of the askX stuff then the comic-related ones, but I began to write this up after I realized this was more than just a one-off tagging issue and needed to be formally discussed.

I will go through my tag history and retag anything I've changed. I can also work on doing the reverse of goal #1 (adding the name instead of deleting it) if you want, but I suspect that you would prefer I walk away from this.

One question before I do anything: Should these comic names be added as a general tag or as copyright:comic tag?
