Can we please, please get rid of these tags already?
They've been declared invalid because they're gender based species tags.
I would suggest aliases for them, but a lot of them are already involved in an alias, so the system won't let me.

In the mean time, I have to clean them up every month or two because people keep tagging them, and will keep tagging them.

I really think they should be aliased to gender-neutral equivalents instead of being aliased away completely. Like you said, people use them, continue to use them. So lets find a way to make the name of it gender neutral and then alias the *girl and *boy tags to those.

I do agree with Halite though, that it needs a solution so it can be handled. It's sort of been in limbo for awhile, and that's not good.

More than a year, and multiple times asking for some sort of alias solution so we can stop having to fix it manually every time.

How about:

cat girl/boy --> nekomimi (lit. "cat ears")(maybe apply to others? ie. Cow/dog person)

Goo girl/boy --> living slime (eg.)

Monster girl/boy --> monster

Etc, etc.

Monster_girl should absolutely not be aliased to monster, by the way. Because a lot of monster girls are creatures that we don't tag as monster. Such as centaurs, elves, angels, etc. The current implication to it should be removed.

'Monster Girl' is more of a genre than species. I'm not even sure if it should've been a species tag to begin with; simply changing it to a copyright tag would solve a lot of problems.

As for living_slime? That sounds like a good idea. We currently tag them as species goo, but that gets mixed up with the general tag slime all the time. So aliasing goo to living_slime would make the usage more obvious.

Kemonomini would work for cow/dog/whatever persons. Of course, nekomimi would then need to implicate this since they're a category of kemonomimi but should still be its own tag since nekomimi are so common.

I think this is confusing but I agree that it may be the best solution currently available -- unless we have other genre-tags that are 'general' category. I was looking at horror, but not sure if that's consistently a genre thing or something where the definition wanders all over the place according to who's tagging it.

kemono might be a good example of a tag that is in the same class as monster_girl and is a general tag.

species_girl/_boy is going to end up aliased away to the coresponding species, with the exception of goo_girl and anything else strange I find in the list.

tank_girl: Comic, should be a copyright tag. No changes needed.
ghost_girl: Character from Sonic. Doesn't seem to be any overlap, so no changes needed.
charle_de_girl: Movie character from Valiant.
gear_girl: Yeah, legit character.
magical_girl: Anime genre. I think magical girls are distinct enough to tag by twys, though they're definitely more popular on Danbooru etc than here. I'll sort it out myself, since I'm somewhat familiar with them. Edit: Done. Sorted to magical_girl_outfit, which is more in line with current tag policies.

And please unimplicate monster_girl from monster. Since they're not all monsterlike, and shouldn't be tagged as such.

water_girl: I'd suggest an alias to water_elemental.
mamono_girl: Japanese for monster_girl. Should be aliased to it.

EDIT2:
snowflake_girl: Currently only tagged once, for Snegurochka. Snow maiden from Russian fairy tale. Can be removed, since we already have a tag for her.

EDIT3:
neuroi_girl: Character from Strike Witches. Legit, and could be implicated to strike_witches.

This will definitely take me until the weekend to go through them.

super_girl/supergirl: Supergirl is from Superman, keep as character tag. No idea about super_girl.
harem_girl: There probably is a better tag, but I can't think of one. Concubine doesn't seem to fit well enough.
lizards_and_girl: Looks like it should be a pool.
poring_girl: Humanized slime from Gaia Online. Fixed it, you can scratch it off the list. (It's unlikely to ever get tagged again.)
beast_girl: Probably the character from Teen Titans. If it ever gets tagged again, we can see what to do about it then.
slime_girl: Should be aliased to the same tag as goo_girl. Though I'm not sure if we decided to go with species tag goo or living_slime for those..
showgirl: Um... How about aliasing it to exotic_dancer? I've got no better ideas.

The rest are a complete mystery to me.

• big_girl -> chubby
• la_blue_girl should be a copyright tag

I think we probably need some kind of ruling on that kind of stuff on the gender_transformation page. Looking at current post counts, I would expect that individual tags are currently not needed (taking that 471 taggings figure and doubling it to guesstimate 942 posts that actually contain gender_transformation.)

Well if I were to guess, it might have been invented as an intersex version of mtf (male_to_female) and ftm (female_to_male) which are implicated to gender_transformation. And being able to specify which type of gender_transformation is happening is useful since it would otherwise be difficult to browse or search. I still think using the abbreviated forms (mtf and ftm) only encourages these tags as being used/mistagged as identities in the transgender community instead of the intended tag use (which is for identifying which gender is being transformed to/from in the transformation being depicted). So if I could, I'd change those to the full version instead of the abbreviated, because the abbreviations are very strongly associated with transgender lingo and transgender identities, (which, of course, are beyond the scope of tagging). So I think that simple change would make it at least a little more clear that it's describing the transformation itself and not the character's actual personal identity. But that's only somewhat related.

More directly on topic: if we have tags for male_to_female and female_to_male transformations, then it makes some sense to keep intersex versions like male_to_dickgirl, especially if it's the final form (because all complete gender transformations will pass through an intersexed stage at some point near the middle). But then again, maybe it isn't practical because intersex versions of [gender]_to_[gender] tags could apply to almost all of them (because most gender transformations will go through intersex, even if they don't always stop there). Just to clarify, I'm not attached to keeping male_to_dickgirl as a tag, I'm just thinking aloud about whether or not it makes sense to keep it or to alias it away.

Cowgirl is one of those tags that requires almost daily cleanup: it's tagged for cowgirl_position, female anthro bovines, and cowgirls (the ranch worker type). So I think we need to do something about it.

The other two already have their own tags, maybe the third could be tagged as costume instead; as in female + cowboy_outfit?

If someone says "it'd probably be better off as another tag-type" then it's always better to wait for a final consensus before removing the tag, I can nuke a tag in under 10 clicks from the entire site, so it really is not needed to meddle with it before a decision about its future has been made.

Heh. I do wish we had some way to delete unused misspellings off the master tag list. Those do tend to get a bit cluttery over time..

Agreed. And old versions of tags that are on long-ago-deleted images, so that it looks like it needs maintenance from the tag index screen but there's "nothing there" when you go to check. I wish it didn't give false alarms like that...maybe if it could filter out deleted results just like it can filter out completely empty tags. Not a big deal, but would be nice.

You know... I think I've actually heard some admin say that. But I've never seen it happen. I'm sure some of those have been there for at least two years. Or maybe they just get constantly recreated, though that doesn't seem likely.

I've heard that. Like Genjar said, I think I once saw an admin explain that somewhere. Since I usually search the tag index with the empty tags filtered out I usually don't see them. But on occaision I un-check the ticky box to see what the empty tags on something are and there's always a lot of them. The fact there's so many makes me think it either doesn't cull the empty tags from the list anymore, or that some glitch keeps a lot of them from getting handled.

It also can't clear out tags (misspellings or otherwise) that still have deleted images under them. So you get old misspellings or outdated forms of tags that have one or more deleted images still tagged with it, making it still show up in tag index searches. That's not helpful because you have to manually check to make sure whether or not there's a lost image there that needs quickly fixing or if it's a deleted image that you can't do anything about or even see. It's misleading when you're trying to fix typos and mistags, since you have to just check them and hope it's actually an image you can edit and fix. I wish there was a way to filter deleted images out of the equation in tag index searches since they waste time and it's a little frustrating to know you can't fix them.

It never occurred to me that that is where the weird ghost tags were coming from.

Add status:deleted to your search and they'll come right up.

Sounds like an oddly satisfying project.

Edit: It looks like it grays out the tag box when you click the post itself, however you can still modify it from the "Edit Posts" mode on the main page. Not sure how much admins will like people messing with deleted posts, but I doubt they will care if we are removing otherwise completely unused tags.

Edit 2: I can already tell this will be faster with wildcard searches (ie, status:deleted -ask ask*). Also I just noticed status:any, which will probably be handy during mass tag moving (gripping).

I could've sworn that I've tried that before, but evidently not: searching for that makes it possible to tag script typos and such away (so they don't show up on the master list). Excellent tip, thank you.

I'll look at it in a little more detail a bit later, but there's one thing I notice immediately:

pokegirl -> pokemon
pokégirl -> pokemon

Those should alias to pokémon.

Edit: Also, cuntboy (and tomboy probably, I don't really use that one) should probably go into the "not going to touch" pile. pussyboy can probably alias to cuntboy unless it means something completely different.

Edit 2: pillsbury_doughboy is a mascot. Although it isn't really that relevant anyways so it doesn't really matter.

Shinobi_girl is a game, side-scrolling runner type, good tag.
Poring_girl is a girl that's a poring(slime/goo monster in Ragnarok Online) could be aliased to goo.
Slime_girl I would alias to goo.
Invisible_girl you could alias to invisible_person?
Everything else looks ok.

Also, you misspelled weasel in the *boy list, but you spelled it the same as the website so I assume that's a joke of some sort.

I know that I'm about a month late with this post but I'm not sure whether aliasing <<animal>>_girl tags to <<animal>> (for example dog_girl -> dog) is a good idea because some people might be using it for animal_ears (in fact there are implications like doggirl -> dog_ears and since almost none (excluding dragon-kin) of *_ears tags have implications to species tags I assume that dog_ears should not be tagged with dog tag.

Whoops, misread your post. If they're posting a kemonomimi, it should be tagged as such, along with which animal the character is adopting visual traits from.
