Topic: 'art style Imitation' tag?

Posted under Tag/Wiki Projects and Questions

I'm interested in what you guys might think of an 'art style imitation' tag. By that, I mean unofficial images or fanart that closely resemble the art style of the official source material, intentionally or not.

I don't know about you, but when searching rule 34, I try to find images that look as close to the official art style as possible, because I prefer that way beyond personalized art styles.

Some examples...

And I have drawn my own artwork that tries to capture official styles as well.

So the tag means that images, sfw or nsfw, that try to be as faithful to the source material as possible. It doesn't have to be perfect, but it has to be close. This kind of tag would make it easier for people like myself to find these kinds of pictures amongst more personalized styles that artists use.

What do you think?

Sounds both interesting and massively futile. I'm game.

We've had this issue with MLP where the feral tag ended up with a sort of double meaning "show accurate", which obviously caused a bit of conflict at first with what would be unnatural positioning of the arms/legs (post #220930) but still fit better under feral than either anthro or the relatively unused semi-anthro.

This problem has been like enough solved for MLP, but shows with normally anthro characters don't really have this sort of convenience to fall back on. I don't know how this will work in practice, but it's something I think would be worth exploring. Just be aware that the larger the tag gets, the more likely it will be that the meaning becomes more lax or watered down over time (there will be more "borderline cases" that continually test the tags limits).

There is toony by the way. It isn't exactly what you are looking for but it might help for a few shows at least.

What about when an artist mimics another artist?

Harder to judge as influence sometimes goes in all directions. I think at the very least it should be a separate tag from the one in this thread.

Which aliases/implications do you mean?

Well, you've done admirable work slogging through a bunch of alias/implication suggestions, but that tends to push down relevant discussions like this fast ^_^;;
