It was once able to reverse the damage to a hard drive that was supposed to be 1 TB but was reading as 13 MB to the rest of the machine.

You misunderstand, it doesn't clean unused space off of the hdd, it cleanses the hdd off of everything, like dropping a Tsar bomb over some city.
Before the bomb there is a flourishing city, afterwards there are maybe some ruins left and it can be rebuild from scratch.
The next best thing is that dban doesn't need an OS, drop it on a disk, boot from that disk and nuke away.

I'm really not good with computers, except for knowing what to avoid (Norton) and using Itunes. But holy balls if I haven't been asked to fill and polish my families Ipods each time newgen comes out. Mi madre still asks how to turn it off. >:I

Windows button + D on startup. Also, windows + [arrow key]. Win-up to maximize, win-down to restore (or to minimize a non-maximized window), win-left puts the window into the left half of the screen, win-right puts the window into the right half of the screen. Those shortcuts are super useful to me.
