Topic: Tag Alias: kemono -> invalid_tag

Posted under Tag Alias and Implication Suggestions

Kemono refers more to an art style than a species, so maybe just tagging blatantly obvious examples should be pursued rather than getting rid of the tag entirely. I do use the tag to search for artwork with the kemono style from time to time, and as of yet I haven't struggled terribly with regards to tagging it or seeing it tagged.

Obviously, mileage will vary, and I missed out on the original conversation regarding the tag, so there's that.

I say it's unneeded, but like other posters on that thread suggest, I think a tag for Eastern art might be useful.

That would be a kimono, if that wasn't just a joke.

It was mostly a joke.

Bah. It's been a month, and I still can't come up with any good solutions for this.

Kemono is so widely tagged that invalid_tag might not be the best place for it. Couldn't we just alias it to Japanese? That seems to apply to all (most?) posts, though it's hard to tell since there's thousands.

I'd almost be happy with that alias, but we should probably add any japanese_text beforehand, if anyone feels up to it (I don't blame anyone if they don't want to).

Hmm. This tag has been steadily increasing in usage. I'm not really convinced that it's entirely useless as a tag at this point (even if 90% of posts tagged kemono come up with source:pixiv, that's not exactly an obvious way to search for this content).

Thoughts in no particular order:

  • I don't think an alias to japanese would work exactly, just because...well Korean, et al.
  • invalid_tag doesn't really seem like a good place to put it. Both for searching and ongoing cleanup.
  • It's probably distinct enough to tag by itself, and a lot of people seem to use it.

I'm for either invalidating it or possibly creating a "from_region" series of tags.

Bumped because is oldest disputed tag alias by like 5 months

Denied. It's widely tagged and consistent enough that keeping it around doesn't seem to cause any actual problems. We can always revisit this later if needed, but I haven't seen a compelling reason to get rid of it or even rename it.
