To end my own whining, was it ever stated why the site had to undergo this change? Something wrong or incompatible with the old E6?

Think it was quite old so there were several security issues.

I mean, aside majority of stuff being outdated and many potential security holes that brings...
There's also the fact that from what I'v seen talking with Kira a lot of this site was adhoc implementation that needed reworks anyway to make future work easier
