UNDERTALE! The RPG game where you don't have to destroy anyone.
Undertale was released in 2015 by indie game developer, Toby Fox, who was also a musician for Homestuck and the creator of the Earthbound Halloween Hack.
The game features an Alice in Wonderland style story: you take the role of a human child who accidentally falls down a hole into an underground kingdom full of of strange monsters. The goal of the game is to escape the Underground. In combat you have the option to kill the monsters that attack you, or try to convince them to stop fighting.
The amount of monsters you kill or avoid killing, as well as killing specific bosses will change the ending. Going out of your way to kill every single monster leads to an inevitable battle against the hardest enemy in the game. But in the end, nobody has to die...
The game was released to massive critical acclaim with millions of players on Steam, ports for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and the Nintendo Switch, and an upcoming spin-off called Deltarune.
