Speculative evolution (or spec-evo for short) is a genre of speculative fiction focusing on the future evolution of contemporary species or the evolution of a long extinct branch of life if it didn't died out and continued evolving.

Alternatively this can also pertain to extraterrestrial evolution and how an alien environment influences the evolutionary paths and branches of life.
