"I want to play a game..."
Saw is a horror media franchise created by Australian film makers James Wan and Leigh Whannell.
The series centers around Jon Kramer, better known as The Jigsaw Killer. Jigsaw used to be a civil engineer, but after discovering he was dying from a frontal lobe tumor he attempted and failed to commit suicide. Afterward. he gains a new found appreciation for life and instead becomes obsessed with placing people in deadly games, situations, and traps in the hopes that by attempting to survive them they will also walk away with a newfound appreciation for their lives.
In each movie, Jigsaw will usually kidnap an individual or group of individuals and place them in some kind of death trap he constructed using his engineering skills. He will then communicate to them via a ventriloquist dummy named Billy the Puppet, explaining why he kidnapped them, the rules of the game, and how to win and survive. The games in question usually involve the player's having to injure or mutilate themselves in a symbolic fashion assuming they already haven't been harmed by Jigsaw. Players have to complete the task given, usually within one minute or else the trap will activate and kill them.
Meanwhile, various police officers and detectives will try to find Jigsaw while doctors and surgeons are often forced to prolong Jigsaw's life.
Jigsaw is portrayed in most films by Tobin Bell.
