These charts visually compare and contrast the size and shape of the genitalia, among other features, sometimes including statistics . In most cases, the penises are of a set of different characters, less commonly, it may depict the same character's penis growth over time, a character's penis changing between different forms, or compares the penises of different species.

Penis charts are often, but not always, in the form of a "penis lineup" where each phallus is lined up vertically in a table, and paired with a portrait of the penis owner.
