gender transition

Gender transitioning is the process by which a transgender person changes their body and self-presentation to better match their gender identity. Though these changes can take months or years to fully manifest, transitioning has proven to be successful at alleviating gender dysphoria in transgender individuals.
Physical changes are usually made through hormone replacement therapy and gender affirming surgeries. Some transgender people imitate these changes in other ways, such as AFABs wearing chest binders. As for presentational changes, these can include changing one's own name, pronouns, choices of clothing, and even their own speaking voice.
Not to be confused with:
- gender transformation — a much broader tag, usually applies to more sudden and/or supernatural changes in gender.
- Additionally, this tag can also apply to cisgender characters being transformed into a gender they don't identify with, which goes against the whole point of transitioning.
- feminization & masculinization — refers to characters expressing themselves in a more feminine/masculine way than before, regardless if they start off identifying as that gender.
