crossover ship

A crossover relationship — when two characters from different pieces of media are "shipped" (a fandom term based on "relationship") together in a romantic or sexual situation.

Why Crossover Ship?

Many specific crossover ships become popular subjects in fan art that end up drawn by many artists over time. In most cases, even if the pairing seems odd, these popular crossover ships have one or more reasons for why these characters are repeatedly depicted together, such as:

  • being of the same species
  • having similar aesthetics or design
  • having similar roles or professions
  • how the characters' personalities could play off one another as a couple
  • "meta" reasoning, e.g. the characters sharing a voice actor, the media they originate from releasing around the same time, or the media having similar settings and/or genre

However, some crossover ships are considered "crack ships" where the characters paired together are intentionally bizarre and humorous, and have few if any of the elements from the list above, a popular example of which would be the mordetwi meme.

Tagging Notes
  • Characters should be interacting in a way that clearly implies infatuation, affection, love and/or lust for one another, this tag should not be used if the characters are simply posed together (even if nude), or interacting in a friendly way
  • If the interaction is unwannted/nonconsensual, crossover_ship should not be added to the post
