In the Overwatch universe, Omnics are artificially intelligent robots produced by omniums, large factories originally constructed by the now-defunct Omnica Corporation. Omnics have served as members of the antagonistic faction during the Omnic Crisis, where the omnic rebelled against their human creators instigated by an AI called Anubis. It has since been referred to as "one of the greatest threats to the survival of our species since the Cold War of the 20th century."

Although the war has ended, views on omnics have worsened in parts of the world. For example, the United Kingdom have rejected basic human rights for omnics. In contrast, there are places like Numbani that do resume co-existence between them and humans.
