Freckles are clusters of concentrated melanin that appear as dark speckling or spots on the surface of the skin.
Freckles on anthro, semi-anthro or feral characters are done with artistic license, and would actually be dark patches of fur, scales, or feathers that merely resemble freckles.
Freckles can appear anywhere on the body, and are very commonly depicted on character's shoulders, breasts, and buttocks; however, the most common location for freckles is the face, where they usually cluster across the nose, upper cheeks, and/or under the eyes.
