soda

A soft drink, also known as soda, pop, seltzer, soda pop, tonic, fizzy drink, and several other terms, is a beverage that typically contains water (often, but not always, carbonated water), usually a sweetener and usually a flavoring agent. They're called "soft" to contrast them with "hard" alcoholic beverages.

Types and brands of sodas

  • Citrus soda - Despite the name, this type of soda refers to only lemon-lime sodas.
  • Cola
    • Coca-Cola – The world's most popular soda.
    • Pepsi – The world's second-most popular soda (and was the most popular at various points in history).
  • Dr Pepper – Actually a brand of soda with a uniquely-blended flavor. There's no specific generic term for this kind of soda, which isn't a cola, so any other similar tasting sodas are called "pepper"-flavored sodas.
  • Ginger Ale
  • Grape soda
  • Orange soda
  • Root beer
  • Lemonade – Technically a soft drink, but not tagged as such here. Usually carbonated in some countries.
