A potion is a mixture that seems like it is drinkable; usually stored in a fancy bottle or glassware. Although the term literally can refer to anything drinkable, potions tend to be liquids with special effects. Often used as medicine, and are popular for transformation themes.

Potions generally take effect under two circumstances, the substance is drunk, or the character is exposed often unintentionally to the substance. Injections are not usually a medium of exposure that would fall under the term potion, and the closest term for an injection with potion qualities is a serum.
