A warning sign is a sign containing precautionary information or symbolism on it. Any sign containing a signal word such as warning, caution, danger, or contains the general warning symbol, or any of the various hazard symbols will always qualify as a warning sign. Many warning signs are yellow, including American-based traffic signs. If a traffic sign happens to be yellow, it can be tagged as a warning sign.
Usage tips
- Try not to confuse labels with signs. Labels are placed on other objects, while signs are their own complete object.
- A warning sign does not need to contain any symbols, and can be entirely text.
- Warning signs may contain the general warning symbol, or a hazard symbol. The general warning symbol does not count as a sign graphic, but many hazard symbols will. Most traffic warning signs will contain a graphic.
