count
A count is a value that represents a running total or quantity of something. This tag is usually numerical in nature to avoid overlap with tally marks, and has restrictions to how it should be used.
General guidelines
Good applications
- Quantities that appear on a screen, excluding monetary amounts.
- Counts that appear as part of a video game interface.
- Counts that track viewer counts, or patron / customer counts.
- Counts that take the format: <icon>:<quantity> or <icon>x<quantity>
- Counts that contribute to the context of the image. These are usually displayed prominently on the image.
- Counts that track orgasms, or other sexual activity. This does not include tally marks.
Things to avoid
- Tally marks, or things that function like tally marks
- Any value that might be measured in fractional amounts: temperature, weight, volume, etc.
- Most values related to money or time (excludes days, weeks, months, years). See time period
- Pagination* See page_number
- Videogame / roleplaying stats: attack, defense, strength stats, etc.
- Videogame score totals, points, or experience values
- Counting, or other sequential themes that doesn't refer to something specific such as a day count.
* Page totals are allowed, but the current page number should not use this tag. The same rule also applies to chapter numbers.
