The Famicom was Nintendo's first real video game console, released for Japanese markets as the Family Computer in 1983. It was rebranded as the Nintendo Entertainment System for the American (NTSC) and European (PAL) markets. The NTSC model was redesigned, and is visibly distinctive from the Japanese model. Unlike the American model, the only difference in controller and console design between the European and Japanese models is the product name stamped on the product itself. For this reason, the PAL models are included as part of the Famicom tag, while the NTSC model defaults to the Nintendo Entertainment System tag.
