The Area 51 meme describes a humorous event that was supposed to take place at the secretive United States base on Groom Lake. The event invited millions of people to come along and attempt to raid the base for fun, on the logic that a vast amount of people would overwhelm any amount of security no matter how powerful. This spurred many memes of people predicting what they’d see once they were inside the premises, including space aliens to befriend, genetically engineered catgirls, and artifacts, among other things. The event took place in the early hours of the morning of September 21st, 2019, yet only gathered around a hundred people, and no one had the courage to try to enter as a group. Ultimately, the attendees that did go had a party at the security gate they were going to enter through, so they would have fun regardless.
